Game of Thrones Creators Break Silence On Abandoned Star Wars Project

Ubisoft's upcoming Star Wars Outlaws will lock an exclusive mission featuring Jabba the Hutt behind the Season Pass. While Star Wars fans were excited about the concept of an open world title set in A Galaxy Far Far Away, the latest information revealed for Outlaws has been controversial. Star Wars Outlaws takes place before Return of the Jedi, and places its players in the role of Kay Vess, an ambitious scoundrel and thief from Cantonica. However, despite being an entirely single-player experience, Ubisoft has designed Star Wars Outlaws as an always-online title, with a Season Pass that will offer players access to exclusive content.

Fans are excited to jump into this next major video game release for the Star Wars franchise. We know Star Wars Outlaws is coming this summer, and if you’re contemplating whether you should pick up a preorder, there might be one mission to convince you. That’s to at least convince you to spend more money and acquire one of the higher-tier editions of the game before its release. Unfortunately, there is already one mission locked behind a season pass, and it’s set to debut at launch.

With Star Wars Outlaws, developer Massive Entertainment is looking to deliver the ultimate Star Wars scoundrel fantasy, which, of course, means protagonist Kay Vess (and her adorable companion Nix) will be crossing paths with a number of different factions, the majority of them being criminal syndicates.

Star Wars Outlaws has received an age classification from the Entertainment Software Rating Board. The timing of its ESRB rating's emergence is an encouraging sign for fans, as it indicates that Star Wars Outlaws is on course to release without any delays.

Open world games are often in the habit of being larger than they need to be, particularly when they’re coming from Ubisoft, but developer Massive Entertainment continues to make assurances that it’s taking a different approach with the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws. The action-adventure title will see players exploring the Outer Rim, which, as you might imagine, will mean visiting a number of different planets and locations. Obviously, not all has been revealed on that front, but details have emerged on one particular location in a recently published Game Informer preview, and how its design prioritized density over size.

Star Wars Outaws will take players into the seedy criminal underbelly of the Galaxy Far, Far Away in an open-world adventure from Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora developer Massive Entertainment. As aspiring smuggler Kay Vess, fans will be able to explore multiple Star Wars planets and complete tasks for infamous gangs like the Crimson Dawn and the Hutt family, all while avoiding the forces of the Galactic Empire at the height of its tyranny.

' new story trailer provided the best look at Kay Vess' adventure yet, explaining her motives while introducing some of her allies and enemies as she attempts to navigate the Outer Rim's criminal underworld. Many elements of the wider universe were also teased through this new footage, from iconic creatures to characters who haven't been seen on-screen in years.

Ubisoft recently premiered a new story trailer for Star Wars Outlaws, offering another look at Massive Entertainment’s upcoming open world action-adventure title, and confirming that it’ll be releasing this August. Alongside that, the company has also released a developer breakdown of the trailer, in which narrative director Navid Khavari sheds new light on some of the game’s key characters, the many underworld syndicates protagonist Kay Vess will be crossing paths with, and more.

A wealth of new information about Star Wars Outlawshas been revealed, including the game’s pre-order bonuses and how fans can jump into the adventure a few days early. Ubisoft and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora developer Massive Entertainment announced that they were working on an open-world Star Wars game way back in 2021, but it wouldn’t be until the Xbox Games Showcase last June that players got their first official look at Star Wars Outlaws in action.
