The free PlayStation Plus games for April 2024 — Immortals of Aveum, Minecraft Legends, and Skul: The Hero Slayer — are now available for subscribers to download. These free PS Plus games cover a few different genres and should therefore offer something to suite most gamers’ varied interests.
PlayStation Plus Essential is the lowest tier of Sony’s gaming subscription service, and one of the perks of membership is that three free games come up for grabs every month. These titles will remain in a user’s library for as long as they remain with the service, but even if a PS Plus subscription lapses and then is renewed, all previously acquired free games will become available again.
The free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers in April are now available to download. The first, Immortals of Aveum developed by Ascendant Studios, is a single-player first-person shooter that currently sits at a 72 aggregate score on OpenCritic and a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam. Published by EA in August 2023, the ambitious magic-based shooter puts players in the role of Jak, a battlemage who uses his powers to save the world in the Everwar.
Southpaw Games’ roguelike platformer Skul: The Hero Slayer won a number of awards even before it launched in January 2021, including Best Indie Game at the Korea Game Awards 2020. Moving away from the more serious vibe of Immortals of Aveum, the procedurally generated levels in Skul still offer quite a challenge wrapped up in a pleasant pixel-art style. Skul, a tough little skeleton, is a soldier in the Demon King’s army and he’s crossed paths with some Demon slayers. Of course, that won’t do, and so Skul sets out to hunt the hunters, free any Demons they’ve captured, and use his powerful attacks and combos to get some revenge.
Minecraft Legends is the real-time strategy game based on the long-lived and ever-popular Minecraft franchise. Developed by Mojang and Blackbird Interactive, the game is currently sitting at a “Mixed” review rating on Steam, and support for Minecraft Legends has already stopped, possibly due to a 99% drop in player numbers shortly after release. Nevertheless, the spin-off game received generally positive reviews from media outlets and still has a loyal player community that appreciates the base building, combat, and exploration that Minecraft Legends has on offer.
In addition to the three free games in April 2024, PS Plus subscribers are also getting a new Call of Duty bundle, Combat Pack 3. It includes a blue-colored skin for operator Starry Nightmare, as well as a couple of weapon blueprints, a weapon charm, and other goodies.

Sony routinely adds new games to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, a curated library of PS4 and PS5 titles that’s accessible to those subscribed to PlayStation Plus’ Extra and Premium tiers at no additional cost. As is the case with all such subscription services though, the PS Plus Game Catalog’s library of games is a rolling one that also routinely sees games being removed.
Sony has revealed the slate of games joining the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog in April. In the coming weeks, PS Plus Extra and Deluxe/Premium tier members will get access to deep-sea exploration RPG Dave the Diver, Metroidvania action title Tales of Kenzera: Zau, indie platformer Animal Well, open-world racing title Crew 2, action platformer Raji: An Ancient Epic and more. Most of these games will be available on the PS Plus catalogue on April 16. Tales of Kenzera: Zau and Animal Well, on the other hand, will join the service as day-one launch titles on April 23 and May 9, respectively.
Sony has officially confirmed 12 games that will be joining the Extra tier of its PlayStation Plus subscription service in April 2024. Thanks to previous release date announcements, PlayStation Plus subscribers already knew about two of the games coming to PS Plus Extra ahead of time.
PlayStation has officially confirmed Animal Well as a day one game for the Extra and Premium tiers of PlayStation Plus. While Xbox Game Pass features more day one games on average, PlayStation Plus has added its fair share of day one games over the years as well. In fact, a day one game is coming to the subscription service later this month.
Rely on your wits in Animal Well, slip into a wetsuit with Dave the Diver and journey through mystical 2.5D realms in Tales of Kenzera: Zau. All three games launch onto PlayStation as part of the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. And there are even more games joining April’s Game Catalog lineup. Let’s take a closer look at each. Aside from Animal Well and Tales of Kenzera: Zau, all titles will be available on April 16.
PlayStation Plus gets a lot of attention for its monthly catalog of rotating titles, but the more persistent library accessible through PS+ Extra and Premium is also a crucial part of the membership. Like Xbox Game Pass, this feature makes it possible to get some major releases on day one without making any individual payment, as well as providing an ever-expanding resource to swell backlogs. So far, 2024 has seen notable additions like and theand remakes, making for an increasingly attractive package.
Those subscribed to the Extra and Premium tiers of PlayStation Plus have two more games to look forward to this month, including day one release Tales of Kenzera: Zau. Sony has established many patterns when it comes to its PlayStation Plus announcement, and so many fans were not expecting to learn about any upcoming PS Plus Extra or Premium games for at least another week or so.
MINTROCKET will release DAVE THE DIVER for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on April 16, the developer announced. It will also be available as part of the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog.
