There’s a strong chance you’re familiar with the Asphalt series: the Gameloft racer is a mainstay in any modern arcade, and is extremely popular on smartphones. Now an updated version of the free-to-play franchise is skidding on to PS5 and PS4, in the form of Asphalt Legends Unite. You can look forward to downloading it on 17th July.
“Spark your competitive soul with Asphalt Legends Unite and feel the collective heartbeat of the road,” the press release reads. “Join forces with other players to speed through intense arcade races, perform jaw-dropping stunts, and charge towards victory while driving the finest hypercars.” All sounds somewhat appealing, doesn’t it?
There’ll be online multiplayer for up to eight people, and local split-screen for up to four players as well. In addition, you’ll be able to create and compete in your own racing Clubs, commandeer over 250 licensed cars, and enjoy arcade action at up to 120 frames-per-second. (Assuming you have the requisite television, of course!)
These games always look very clean, and while the gameplay is generally simplistic due to its free-to-play origins, it’ll probably occupy a worthwhile slot on your hard drive. Will you be giving this a spin when it releases later in the summer? Try not to drift away in the comments section below.

"...it’ll probably occupy a worthwhile slot on your hard drive..."
Very much doubt.
Asphalt is the Little Caesars of racing games. It's cheap, and that's the only reason why it has appeal.
Actually no, that's actually a massive insult to Little Caesars. I'm so sorry Little Caesars, please reopen a restaurant near me, I'd rather play Wii Party on master difficulty than eat White Castle or Burger King.
Wait what were we talking about...oh yeah, Asphalt. Yeah I don't care for this, and I don't think most will either. If people want a racing game on PS5, they have other options.
Not that Asphalt is terrible or that it'll do poorly. It's just soulless.
this is fine and all, and it’s free, but i’m dying for a new street racing game. i wanna race in an escalade on 28s again, wheres midnight club
Gameloft Free Arcade Racer = microtransaction hell
@sanderson72 Was just about to say that, no word on microtransactions but going in you should expect a hefty dose of these anywhere you look.
I'm just happy whenever I hear a new split-screen racing game gets a release.
And agreed @nomither6, there's a huge
