Fortnite developer Epic Games has reportedly patched a popular XP exploit in LEGO Fortnite that enabled players to gain XP points by doing nothing. The «AFK XP exploit» was being used by many Fortnite players to level up and unlock rewards quickly.
The AFK XP exploit involved entering a match in LEGO Fortnite and then going AFK to gain XP points without even moving the player character. The players would simply set up sandbox mode and disable enemies to use this exploit without any difficulty. In this way, they would collect thousands of XP points and easily reach the next level by just letting the game play out for hours. After lingering in the game for a long time, it seems that this exploit has finally been fixed by the developer.
In a recent Twitter post, ShiinaBR revealed that Epic Games has patched the AFK XP exploit, in Fortnite's LEGO mode, with a new hotfix. This means that players will no longer be able to farm XP points without interacting with the game. According to the source, the developer uses an «AFK timer» to detect idle players and stop them from gaining XP. As a result, players will need to get back to the grind for completing XP challenges, leveling up, and collecting rewards.
Several players expressed their disappointment at the removal of this exploit, whereas others were relieved to hear the news. Amusingly, a crestfallen user shared that they wondered how they would reach level 200 now that the exploit was gone. Since higher levels bring more cosmetic content in Fortnite, this was a mutual feeling across several comments. On the other hand, another user labeled the move as «much-needed,» and reasoned that it made no sense to reward players for simply loading the game up.
Apart from that, several comments also discussed other innovative ways to gain XP in LEGO Fortnite while still being away from the game. A few users suggested makeshift methods, such as using a rubber band or wrapping a cord around the controller's stick, to make the player move with no manual input.
Although the AFK XP exploit is now patched, there are still other convenient ways to gain XP and unlock Battle Pass rewards in Fortnite. Given the «Earn XP Anywhere» approach of the game, players can simply play any of the available game modes to level up. So, whether it be building structures in LEGO Fortniteor completing races in Rocket Racing, players can rest assured their effort is translating into XP points.
