Final Fantasy 7 fans have only just now realised that Cloud Strife's original blocky design bears a striking resemblance to Teen Gohan from Dragon Ball Z.
As far as gaming protagonists go, Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy 7 has to be one of the most iconic and recognisable of all time. People wouldn't have spent the last few decades begging for a remake of his adventure otherwise. Even if that is the case, some Final Fantasy fans are only now just realising that Cloud's PS1 design has a surprising number of similarities to another pop culture legend.
That legend is none other than Gohan from Dragon Ball Z, specifically his "Teen" look from the Cell Saga. Twitter user SFBDim was the one to blow everyone's mind when they tweeted out of nowhere that Super Saiyan Teen Gohan looks scarily similar to Cloud's original PS1 design, right down to the purple outfit, the dark red belt, and the spiky blonde hair.
Although most Dragon Ball fans know Gohan's Cell Saga variant as "Teen Gohan" thanks to video games, he's actually only ten years old when he fights Cell. Not much of a teen at all.
As of the time of writing, SFBDim's tweet about the two looking like each other has over 10,000 likes on Twitter, which seems to indicate that a lot of other Final Fantasy fans never realised the similarities either. Some Dragon Ball fans pointed out that Cloud also resembles Trunks at times, although it's a lot less clear-cut than with Cloud and Gohan.
To make the resemblance even clearer, SFBDim even put together a short animation showing Gohan with a blocky Final Fantasy 7 design, which truly makes it undeniable that the two resemble one another. The only time that the comparison doesn't work is with Cloud's remake design, which is much less purple than the original.
As cool as it is to see two awesome characters look like one another, it does seem to be pure coincidence and not an intentional homage. It's also really only apparent when comparing the blocky design of Cloud to Gohan, as official artwork usually has his outfit looking less purple, which is one of the main things that draws the two together. Still, it seems that a lot of Dragon Ball and Final Fantasy fans had never even made the connection before, making it a pretty cool discovery that you won't easily unsee.

But, if you’re looking for something a bit more “substantial,” then perhaps Amazon is where you go to get the game.
