It's been nearly four years since Final Fantasy 7 Remake launched on PlayStation 4, and according to Windows Central managing editor Jez Corden, it might finally be on its way to Xbox.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake was always billed as a timed exclusive, hence why it launched on PC in 2022. Xbox was seemingly left out of the mix, but Corden says he has "evidence tentatively that there are discussions" about porting it to Microsoft's platform.
Maybe Sony and Square Enix both wouldn't want to take the shine off Rebirth right now by announcing Final Fantasy 7 Remake for Xbox, but I do think it'll happen.
Xbox head Phil Spencer has discussed this possibility in the past. Last August, he said that he and Square had conversations in Tokyo, discussing the company's commitment to Xbox. We're already seeing that with Final Fantasy 14, which is set to launch on Xbox this year after over ten years on PlayStation and 14 on PC. But Spencer teased there's more to come.
"You'll hear more," Spencer said in an interview with IGN. "I'm not going to push them. They're going to have to find their own rhythm. But having them make a commitment to Xbox was really important both to me and to the community as well."
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the second part of the remake trilogy, is launching next month for PlayStation 5. It is, once again, a timed exclusive, meaning that it'll probably launch on PC within a few months.
If Corden is right and Sony and Square want to avoid stealing the spotlight from Rebirth, it might be a while before we hear about Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Xbox, especially if it's still in the discussion phase. Interestingly, however, Crisis Core Reunion is already available on Xbox, the remastered spin-off that sets up Zack's story for Rebirth.
Final Fantasy 16 also skipped Xbox, launching exclusively on PlayStation 5. It is, however, coming to PC.
While Microsoft is trying to bring more Square Enix games to its platform, it's reportedly open to porting its exclusives to other consoles. We've seen both Xbox and PlayStation branch out to PC in recent years, but there are rumours that Hi-Fi Rush is coming to Nintendo Switch. To boot, Microsoft is reportedly "exploring" the possibility of porting older games to other platforms.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will feature an ambiguous ending that will keep players wondering about the third and final part of the trilogy, according to the game's producer.
Final Fantasy fans have been calling on Square Enix to remake the sixth game for years now, but FF7 Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase says a major roadblock preventing those dreams from coming true is its scope.
The second instalment of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is set to launch soon, but there are, of course, plenty of other fan-favourite instalments in the long-running series that many have been hoping to see remade in similar fashion. Final Fantasy 6 in particular has been heavily demanded by series fans- though according to Yoshinori Kitase – producer on the FF7 Remake trilogy and co-director of the original Final Fantasy 6 – developing a remake series for the SNES classic would be an even more herculean task than developing the FF7 Remake trilogy.
As part of major changes to Apple’s App Store policies to comply with EU regulations, the company has also announced that game streaming apps are now to be accepted on the App Store for the first time. This opens the door for Xbox Game Pass, GeForce Now, PlayStation Plus, Amazon Luna and other game streaming subscriptions to have dedicated apps on iPhone and iPad – they were previously only accessible via built-in web browsers.
UPDATE
Many people are looking forward to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and that’s not a shock at all. When Square Enix released the first entry of the “remake saga” back in 2020, gamers were stunned by how well the publisher had remade the original title despite focusing only on the Midgar storyline for the “first part.” The graphics were stunning, the voice acting was on point, and the updated combat system made it feel like an RPG while also being “upgraded” to fit modern times. However, a few flaws held it back, mainly in the party system.
Industry insider Shpeshal Nick believes Final Fantasy 16 is coming to Xbox Series X/S.

For the record, we didn’t plan two stories about items you can get for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to come in back-to-back days. Life decided to have a little fun with us, and we don’t mind. Yesterday, we discussed how Square Enix Reward Program members could get a special glitter globe featuring the Gold Saucer from the upcoming RPG. It was cute and adorable, and we’re sure some of you have already subscribed to the program so you can get it or are cashing in points to ensure you get it. But, if you’re looking for something a bit more “substantial,” then perhaps Amazon is where you go to get the game.
When it comes to video games, many who play them don’t just want the “memories” of playing them; they want items in the real world that’ll help them remember those memories in a different way. Pre-order items are a big deal in this respect, as people will pay out the nose to get unique items that can only be bought through these special deals. Square Enix decided to up the ante with the upcoming release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth by offering its Reward Members the chance to get a special glitter globe featuring the Gold Saucer from the upcoming title.
Voice artist Cody Christian, who plays Cloud in the forthcoming Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, thinks «shippers» who «overtly sexualise every relationship can ruin great story development».
