Various hands-on impressions and new gameplay for Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth have gone live as Tokyo Game Show 2023 kicks off. Two portions of the game are showcased – Fated Beginnings: Cloud and Sephiroth, which takes place in the past and The World of FF7 Rebirth: Junon Area, set after the events of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Check out the gameplay below courtesy of Dengeki Online and Famitsu.
The former sees Cloud and Sephiroth investigating Nibelheim with Tifa in tow. Fans will be familiar with the tragedy that befalls the town, but for now, the two SOLDIERs are working together. Sephiroth is playable and unleashes powerful attacks, while the overall play area features climbable sections and collectible chests. There’s even a boss fight against a Materia Guardian.
The second section focuses on Cloud, Aerith, Tifa, Barret and Red XIII after they escape from Midgar. Venturing across Junon, which offers more freedom of exploration, they ride on Chocobo (which are customizable with different cosmetics) and take on missions. Though it was small in the hands-on demo, Square Enix told Polygon that the area would be much larger in the final game.
As players explore, they’ll arrive in Under Junon and go up against the Terror of the Deep boss, which is around when Yuffie Kisaragi gets involved. Other powerful enemies called Fiends roam the landscape and serve as Elite foes for the party to decimate with new Synergy attacks.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launches on February 29th, 2024 for PS5. Stay tuned for more details shortly.
