Final Fantasy 14 vocalist Susan Calloway has seemingly deleted her Twitter account in what appears to be an attempt at damage control, as several fans have discovered the singer has been liking extremely racist and transphobic tweets for the past 6 months.
Since Calloway's account has been deleted, we are currently unable to see all of the posts that she's been liking, though fans have grabbed screenshots. From these, we can see that Calloway has liked a tweet that compares parents allowing minors to transition to "child molestation", as well as several tweets of people replying to Libs of TikTok, a controversial Twitter account that regularly shares homophobic, racist, and anti-vax content from several different creators.
After fans discovered these liked tweets and called her out on them, Calloway claimed that she had been hacked and that she was surprised that she hadn't "earned the benefit of the doubt" from the Final Fantasy 14 community. Unfortunately for Calloway, her claims that she'd been hacked were immediately debunked after she was found to have liked transphobic tweets as far back as January. She has also been found following the likes of far-right figures such as Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson on Twitter and Instagram.
This news has come as quite a blow to many fans, as Calloway was once beloved in the community and is often described as the voice of Final Fantasy 14, having performed several iconic theme songs such as Answers, Dragonsong, and Revolutions. She was also supposed to be attending the upcoming KupoCon: Pom East event this December, but has now been pulled due to this recent controversy in favor of a different guest star.
In light of recent events, we announce that Susan Calloway will no longer be attending our upcoming event in Toronto. We will do our utmost to secure another guest in time for Pom East, but it may be difficult due to the time constraints.
Calloway is also currently scheduled to perform Final Fantasy 14 songs at a Distant Worlds event in Seattle in January, which is a concert tour officially backed by Square Enix. While it's not yet been confirmed whether Calloway is being pulled from this event as well, it's difficult to imagine that Distant Worlds will keep her on after the outrage from fans.
It was recently stated by the Distant Worlds Twitter account that it has a mission to make sure "each performance includes fellowship, joy, and safety for every member of the community", but it has not yet confirmed whether or not Calloway will be performing next year. TheGamer has reached out to Distant Worlds for clarification and will update this story with new information if and when it becomes available.
