Ahead of the release of the Dawntrail expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, Square Enix has released a handy-dandy free benchmark tool for players to test whether their setup can handle 7.0’s improved visuals. The new update will improve textures, hair, grass, shadows, and reflections, and will be the title’s first graphical upgrade since it was released in 2013.
Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail Pre-Orders Are An Absolute Mess

With more people than ever currently on the Final Fantasy 14 hype train, it makes sense that millions flocked to the Square Enix website in an attempt to get their Dawntrail pre-orders locked in and ready for the expansion's July 2 release. Unfortunately, those of you who have prior history with the Square Enix website probably knew things weren't going to be that simple, and right on cue, pre-orders for Dawntrail have been an absolute mess.
It started off with failed card payments, as fans were understandably attempting to pay for the expansion pre-order with their cards, only for them to get errors. Square Enix recommended that fans use PayPal for a smoother process, only for the site's checkout process to fail as well. It was then recommended that fans trying to buy the Collector's Editions log out of their accounts and use the guest checkout instead, but use the same email as their account to ensure they receive their Square Enix member points.
Of course, all of these issues were made worse by the fact that the Square Enix Store itself couldn't handle the traffic. You'll find countless fans online complaining about bad gateways, 404 errors, crashes, and pretty much everything else that can go wrong with a website, and that's before any of them managed to get to the card payment problems. At the time of writing, the Square Enix Store still isn't letting me log in.
If you thought you were clever by avoiding the Square Enix store entirely and pre-ordering through Steam, you weren't safe there either. Shortly after pre-orders went live, several users reported not being granted their Dawntrail registration codes when purchasing through Steam, which resulted in Square Enix having to reach out to Valve to get the issue sorted out.
And just as it looked like issues were beginning to be sorted out, it was announced very recently by the Final Fantasy 14 Twitter account that there is now a known issue with pre-order code delivery for those that actually managed to do their business via the Square Enix Store. Codes are making their way to buyers "sequentially," but Square Enix has warned that it may take "several hours" due to the high volume of pre-orders.
A lot of issues are up in the air at the moment, with people still trying and failing to log in, not receiving codes, and generally having a pretty bad time of it. If you're a console player, you shouldn't have too many issue grabbing a digital collector's edition, as it's smooth sailing over there, but make sure you're not logged in to Final Fantasy 14 to make sure you get your pre-order bonuses and avoid any issues.
