Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has seen universal acclaim from critics, and even stands as one of the best-reviewed Final Fantasy games to date, sitting at a Metacritic score of 92. Achieving a 90-plus Metacritic score was, in fact, a goal that the game’s developers were expressly working towards- or, well, game director Naoki Hamaguchi was anyway.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is less than a week away from launch now, and excitement surrounding it is sky-high, especially with reviews for the action RPG having recently gone live across a wide number of outlets, and the consensus being best described as universal acclaim. Currently, the game has a score of 93 on Metacritic (making it the series’ second-highest rated game to date), and that, as it turns out, was explicitly one of the goals that its development team was working towards.
