We've reported throughout the entire month that the excellent Fallout TV show (already renewed for a second season) spurred renewed interest in the whole franchise, with previous games clawing their way back to the weekly sales chart and setting new concurrency records.
Despite all this hype, though, fans already know they will likely have to wait a long time before Bethesda can deliver a brand new Fallout title. That's because they are currently busy making The Elder Scrolls VI, which will take at least three to four more years to make, having only recently entered production. When you add a similar development time for Fallout 5 to appear, it's clear that it won't be on the market in this decade - unless Microsoft, which acquired Bethesda a few years ago, steps in and assigns the project to a different developer.
That's exactly what Windows Central's Jez Corden has suggested during the latest episode of the Xbox Two Podcast.
They're currently formulating plans on how to get the next Fallout here for us sooner rather than later which I know is vague as hell, but like, we constantly talk about 'will we even see Fallout this decade? no, we won't' and the answer is, I think we will. I think we will see Fallout. It's a bit different here, because they've already got the engine, the Starfield engine; they just got to kind of make assets for it. I'm suggesting someone else is going to build it. I think probably Obsidian. I just know that they know they can't let this take that long. That's the gist of the current plan. We're not going to have to wait that long for it.
Obsidian Entertainment, which is also under Microsoft's first-party studio umbrella, does seem like the obvious candidate. After all, they made Fallout New Vegas, which many fans consider to be the best game in the series. Moreover, CEO Feargus Urquhart has already expressed his desire to make another game in the franchise. However, this clashes with the studio's extremely busy lineup. Obsidian is currently busy finishing Avowed, which is slated for this fall, and then they must make The Outer Worlds 2. They're probably not large enough to take on yet another project of the scale required in this case.
It's not the first time we hear Obsidian rumors about a new Fallout game. Over two years ago, Jeff Grubb said talks of a New Vegas sequel were happening with Microsoft, but they must have been halted at some point. Perhaps they are resuming now, if Corden is correct.
If it's not Obsidian, though, it's hard to even imagine a developer experienced enough to make a new Fallout game of sufficient quality. Either way, we'll keep an eye

Following Xbox's decision to close down three studios (Arkane Austin, Tango Gameworks, and Alpha Dog Games) and roll Roundhouse Studios into ZeniMax Online, Jeff Grubb's rumor that the Perfect Dark reboot was in rough waters made things look even more dire for Xbox fans.
It's been a while since we heard anything about the continuation of the Shenmue series. Back in April 2022, there were some hints that Swiss publisher 110 Industries might be looking to partner with developer YS NET, but that didn't happen after all. Where does Shenmue IV stand right now, then? Series creator Yu Suzuki answered the question himself in a new interview with fan site Shenmue Dojo.
President of Xbox Sarah Bond announced during yesterday's Bloomberg Tech talk with Dina Bass that the long-awaited Xbox mobile store will debut this July via Web (to avoid the limitations of the App Store and Play Store while regulators around the world enforce new guidelines). The first games to be added to the store will be Microsoft-owned franchises, like Minecraft and Candy Crush, though the store will be opened to partners shortly afterward.
Following the unexpected move to shut down three game studios and merge another with ZeniMax Online, we learned that Microsoft is still planning more cuts to its Xbox division. But that's not the full extent of the company's re-evaluation of its gaming strategy.
Xbox fans and some employees were blindsided earlier this morning when Microsoft announced a number of their studios were being shuttered, including Arkane Austin (Prey, Redfall), Tango Gameworks (The Evil Within, Hi-Fi Rush), Alpha Dog Games, and Roundhouse Studios. In the hours since then, additional rumors and details about what’s going on behind the scenes with some Xbox teams have emerged.

Back when the Fallout show first hit our TV screens, you couldn't move online due to the sheer number of New Vegas fans that had made it halfway through the show before announcing that it had somehow disrespected the game by making changes to the lore. Many claimed that it had somehow removed New Vegas from Fallout canon (it didn't) and that Todd Howard was secretly the mastermind behind the change, all in an effort to get back at developer Obsidian Entertainment for making a good Fallout game.
was the first in the franchise to transition to modern gameplay, and in doing that came with major improvements to its predecessors and . Though the previous games in the franchise are still excellent in their own right, as time went on their flaws became more apparent. Performance and stability became inconsistent and ultimately brought down the arguably generational games. avoided these issues as it aged while continuing the trend of successful games for the franchise.
Bethesda's Todd Howard was featured in an hour-long video interview on the latest episode of the Kinda Funny Gamescast and, of course, the Fallout franchise was one of the most prominent topics.
