Hot on the heels of the release of the well-received Fallout TV show, Bethesda has finally announced a release date for the long-awaited Fallout 4 next-gen update.
The free upgrade for the post-apocalyptic open-world role-playing game launches April 25 on Xbox Series X and S and PlayStation 5, and includes native applications for the consoles, Performance mode and Quality mode settings, as well as stability improvements and fixes. This means the game will be playable up to 60 frames per second and with an increased resolution.
Elsewhere, Fallout 4 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One also gets a free update with stability improvements, login and quest fixes, Bethesda said in a blog post. And finally, a free Fallout 4 update for PC adds widescreen and ultra-widescreen support, as well as fixes to Creation Kit and a variety of quest updates.
Players with PC versions of Fallout 4 on Steam, Microsoft Store and GOG will receive stability, mods, and bug fixes, Bethesda said. Fallout 4 will also be sold on the Epic Games Store, and will be Steam Deck verified.
Bethesda announced more content in the Fallout 4 updates, including the following free Creation Club items:
Enclave Remnants
Enclave Remnants brings the Pre-War cabal, The Enclave, into the Fallout 4 storyline. In this new quest, “Echoes of the Past,” can you stop The Enclave from spreading their dangerous ideology and gaining a foothold in the Commonwealth?
Along with workshop items and the Enclave Colonel uniform, we are including the following previously released Creation Club content:
Makeshift Weapon Pack
Ever thought a piggy bank would make a great weapon in a pinch? This weapon pack includes a variety of unconventional objects that have been transformed into deadly weapons, such as: a baseball launcher, a nail gun and a piggy bank.
Halloween Workshop
Leftover from an ill-fated Halloween party, thrown by the New England Technocrat Society, these 38 new Halloween decorations include witches, cauldrons, ghouls and more! Decorate for Halloween or make your settlements spooky all year round!
Fallout 4 launched in 2015 across PC, PS4, and Xbox One, generating $750 million in revenue. In the near decade since, Fallout 4 has continued to be one of the top-played games on Steam, with a huge number of mods keeping the experience fresh for players. The next-gen update is well-timed, given it arrives following the release of the Fallout TV show's first season.

When are we finally going to get a release date for the Silent Hill 2 remake? The game is widely expected to launch sometime in 2024, but PR from Konami has been spotty at best. We got a somewhat-questionable trailer back in February (that even developer Bloober Team criticized as not representative of the final game) and as we head deeper into the year, there’s still a lot to be nailed down. The game’s been rated by the ESRB and there are rumors it may pop up at a PlayStation Showcase next month, but Konami themselves have remained silent.
Those who have Fallout 4 via PlayStation Plus do not appear to be able to download the next-gen update for free.

Pokemon has been gradually adding to its Squishmallows collection two plushes at a time, and Dragonite and Marill will be the next Pokemon to get the Squishmallow treatment as they have now been confirmed to release this summer. While it seems to have a handle on the stock/demand balance now, Pokemon didn't anticipate just how popular its Squishmallows would be to begin with. That's why the original four are still hard to find, but two of them are not only back in stock at Walmart, but they're half price.
