Last week, we brought word of confusion among the ranks of eager Fallout fans trying to dive into the native PS5 port of Fallout 4, all fired up from watching Amazon's excellent adaptation. Those with access to either PS Plus Extra or Premium can now upgrade for free, with a small patch being released over the weekend.
Spotted by PSLS, the issue now appears to be resolved, with players reporting that they are able to access the next-gen version of the game. Those who purchased physically or digitally are also fine, although physical owners will need their discs to upgrade.
Sadly, those who acquired Fallout 4 via the now-defunct PS Plus Collection are the only ones who will not qualify for the upgrade. This move aligns with Sony's existing policies, and so perhaps should not be too surprising. Sony is literally putting a free upgrade behind a paywall because it wasn't added through the «proper» channels.
I'm feeling like I put extra points into Luck right now because I decided to pull the trigger and pick it up for $5 + $12 dlc. This decision is a pretty S.P.E.C.I.A.L. way to mess with your consumers though haha. Sony should fix this
Why exactly is this on Sony and not Bethesda? There have been publishers that offered upgrades to the most basic Plus plans and others didn't, why should Sony have any decision on this?
The Fallout 4 Upgrade is exactly the same on both platforms: Those who pay for the Game Catalog (Game Pass/Plus Extra) on their platform and those who purchased the game can receive the upgrade. That's it.
The most aggravating part of this is that I contacted Sony during the sale asking if my PS+ Collection version would receive the free upgrade. The Sony support agent said my copy did indeed qualify. Because of
