Team Ninja's is one of the most expansive RPGs of 2024. The game features a complex combat system, a detailed skill tree, important story choices, and bonds that can lead to romance, otherwise known as Veiled Vows. There are several ways to develop bonds with characters in, including bringing them on missions, giving them gifts, and agreeing with them in conversation.
There are 13 characters in total to romance in, from integral story characters like Ryoma Sakamoto to less consequential figures like Matthew Perry. Most romances can coexist with one another, but there are a few that will give the player an ultimatum if they become involved with another character. It can be tricky to decide which Veiled Vow is best to pursue in, but there are a few that are worth doing much more than others.
Matthew Perry being a love interest in is a perfect example of what happens when developers choose quantity over quality. There is no discernible chemistry between Perry and the main character, they never feel like anything more than work colleagues, and this is after defeating him in the game's first boss fight. This is a completely random addition which doesn't serve the story or any of its characters at all. It would've been better to thoroughly develop a couple of love interests than make 13 characters available for a Veiled Vow.
High on the list of characters who do not deserve to be a romance option in is Ernest Satow. He is, at best, a minor character in the overarching story, particularly if the player sides with the anti-shogunate faction. He is one of the more difficult boss fights in, appearing in the Act 3 mission Satow flies around in the air leaving a blazing trail of fire in his wake, but there isn't so much as a spark when the player tells him they have feelings for him.
It is technically possible to romance, or forge a Veiled Vow with Genzui Kusaka, but it isn't a romantic connection. Once he learns that the main character desires to be more than just comrades with him, his only response is that he's willing to enter a bond of kinship. He makes it abundantly clear to both male and female characters that he is not interested in anything more than kinship. However, it's still better to become even closer friends with someone like Genzui Kusaka than to form a romantic connection with Matthew Perry or Ernest Satow in.
There is no reason for Sana Chiba to be a love interest in. From the moment she's first introduced, it's obvious that she and one of the game's main characters, Ryoma Sakamoto, have a complicated past. It would be one thing if this was an old fling from years ago, but it's painstakingly clear she is still interested in Ryoma, who is the player's best friend throughout the game. Sana

The Bond you build between characters in can create romances, unlock side quests, and more. Gifts are the best way to deepen the relationships you have with your favorite companions, allowing those allies to give you access to new gear, weapon styles, and even skill points. The right items presented to various characters will let their Bond with you grow much faster as your journey continues.
Koei Tecmo has shared a brief sales update for recent PS5 exclusive Rise of the Ronin, revealing «sales are surpassing the Nioh series». Without posting any hard numbers, it goes on to say the game has a «high valuation» amongst players and the company is now looking at «mid to long-term growth» for the title.
Rise of the Ronin may be a little shy over a month out from its release on PlayStation 5, but that isn’t stopping the action RPG's sales from outpacing its spiritual predecessors, Nioh and Nioh 2.
Team Ninja’s Rise of the Ronin launched with generally favorable reviews last month, though some were less positive than others (check out ours here). Nevertheless, in its financial results for the fiscal year ending March 2024, Koei Tecmo reports that sales are surpassing its Nioh series.
If you regularly use a PS5 or PS4, there's very little reason not to be using PS Stars. This rewards programme, currently only accessible via the PlayStation mobile app, rewards users with points for PS Store purchases, as well as neat little digital collectibles for completing simple campaigns. Part of the service also allows you to use your accrued points to redeem PS Store credit and, if you have enough, entire games and other digital goodies. It's these PS Stars rewards that have recently been refreshed, and there's some good stuff up for grabs — if you have the points.
Crawl out through the fallout, baby! I've watched two episodes of Amazon's recently released Fallout TV show, a series for and about Walton Goggins' rizz (a thing the kids say). I've been on the Goggins hype train for over a decade at this point, and it's great that - oh sorry, I'm being told that the Fallout TV show is in fact about Bethesda's post-nukepocalypse RPG series of video games, and as such has given a massive player bump to said video games on Steam.
Side quests are one of the many fun activities in that feature some important but mostly inconsequential characters. There are two types of side quests in; Bond Missions and Grass Roots Missions. The former are based around allies that can be bonded with, and the latter are more traditional side quests that feature unnamed characters never to be seen again.
It’s Friday! And with Friday comes a look back at all the games we’ve played this last week. I’ve been hammering Unicorn Overlord, which might just be the best game of the year, while I also spent a bit of time sobbing over the Wii U and 3DS being fully put out to pasture. Beyond that there’s been a lot of Party Animals during the school holidays, and a spot of New Star GP to round things out.
Matthew Perry is the first boss players will encounter, a colonist Commodore set on finally capturing the «white whale» of Japanese trade. He attacks fast, has a firearm at long ranges, and can quickly take down Veiled Edges with his combos. Yet, this militiaman can be defeated with well-timed Counterspark parries and use your ally well.
A little knowledge goes a long way in , and while the title is intended to be brutal, it could be easier with a better understanding of its core mechanics. Make no mistake: its unforgiving difficulty does the genre proud. Every step is fraught with peril, and every victory is hard-won. Completion serves as a badge of honor for those who manage to conquer it and a formidable barrier for the unprepared.
