A longtime frustration facing Elder Scrolls Online lore enthusiasts may finally be addressed by coming updates to the game. The plot hole was originally introduced early in The Elder Scrolls Online, and developer Zenimax Online Studios' plans for the game include addressing that ten-year-old bugbear.
Ever since its launch in 2014, The Elder Scrolls Online has helped expand the vision of Tamriel for fans and players alike, adding new locations and stories beyond what can be seen and experienced in the mainline Elder Scrolls single-player games. Where the single-player RPGs usually placed players in one or two provinces of Tamriel, The Elder Scrolls Online offered unmatched breadth within the Elder Scrolls universe, allowing large numbers of players access to the series' biggest game world. And with the new Elder Scrolls Online Gold Road expansion on the way, even more of Tamriel will be available to experience.
A franchise as long-lived and popular as the Elder Scrolls passes through many creators and teams, each of which leaves their own mark on the series. Sometimes those marks can conflict, as happened when The Elder Scrolls Online depicted the Imperial Province of Cyrodiil as being mainly temperate woodland and plains region, reminiscent of how it appeared in Oblivion. This depiction, however, clashed with earlier descriptions of Cyrodiil during the Second Era (the period of time Elder Scrolls Online takes place in) as being covered in a thick jungle. For years, this discrepancy has stood unaddressed, but an interview with Elder Scrolls Online Creative Director Rich Lambert says that Zenimax will address the inconsistency with the Gold Road expansion. The Elder scrolls OnlineGold Road will add various features, including new playable areas within Cyrodiil.
One of those playable areas is located in the West Weald, a portion of southern and southwestern Cyrodiil bordering the provinces of Valenwood and Elsweyr, and home to the city of Skingrad in Oblivion. But when The Elder Scrolls Online Gold Road launches on June 3, 2024, a massive jungle will be seen covering large portions of the West Weald. The jungle grew seemingly overnight, and was allegedly conjured by a group called the Recollection, made up of Bosmer (Wood Elves). The Recollection's goals and motives aren't clear, but they may tie into story elements from The Elder ScrollsNecrom.
According to the interview with Rich Lambert, the new jungle in Cyrodiil is «absolutely» intended to address the lore inconsistency that Elder Scrolls fans have been pointing out for years now (with some jokingly calling the issue «junglegate»). The presence of jungles in Cyrodiil is seen as important because of myths in the Elder Scrolls history saying the

With the Fallout live-action show now out and honestly far better than I was expecting, are Bethesda also brewing an adaptation of their other big RPG series, The Elder Scrolls? Not at present, according to Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard, and he says he'd "probably say no" if approached. Mind you, that was the stance he had until Fallout finally fell into place.
Bethesda director Todd Howard explained his vision for an Elder Scrolls adaptation during the red-carpet premiere of the Fallout TV series. Longtime fans of The Elder Scrolls have advocated for a live-action adaptation of the high fantasy action RPG series for years, but while many studios have expressed their interest in the chance to bring the land of Tamriel to film or television, the franchise has yet to branch out to either medium to this day.
Bethesda Game Studios director and executive producer Todd Howard has addressed the chances of a TV show based on The Elder Scrolls following the success of Amazon‘s Fallout TV series.
Despite Amazon's Fallout adaptation getting a very positive reception so far, it doesn't seem likely that other Bethesda properties will be getting the same treatment. At least, not on Todd Howard's watch.
With the Fallout TV show on Amazon Prime Video getting rave reviews, the question on everyone's mind is whether Bethesda will try to replicate that magic with the Elder Scrolls franchise.
With the Fallout series currently taking the world by storm, many Bethesda fans are wondering if the Amazon Prime Video exclusive could open the door for other adaptations. At the premiere of the new show in Los Angeles, IGN took the time to chat with Todd Howard about the likelihood of this happening, and things aren’t looking good. Sorry, Elder Scrolls fans.
