Elden Ring producer Yasuhiro Kitao has provided an update on the game’s upcoming expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree.
Speaking to Japanese publication Game Watch, the From Software producer said development was progressing well, but suggested that fans shouldn’t expect a release in the near future.
“It’ll be a little while yet, but progress is going well,” he said in comments translated by PCGamesN. “Like Bloodborne, it has new battles and new characters.”
From Software’s parent company, Kadokawa, also claimed this month that development of the DLC was “proceeding smoothly”.
Shadow of the Erdtree was announced in February, although further details about the expansion weren’t confirmed.
Elden Ring was released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC in February 2022 and was one of the year’s best-selling games.
Just days before the first anniversary of its release, publisher Bandai Namco claimed the game had sold 20 million copies.
Producer Kitao told Game Watch that From Software was “surprised that so many people played the game”, adding: “There are no words other than gratitude. I’m really grateful.”
Elden Ring received an update last December which opened up several Colosseums that had been dotted around the map since release, allowing for PvP battles including duels, free-for-alls and team fights.
Ray tracing support for the game on PC and new-gen consoles was introduced via an update in March.

Elden Ring expansion Shadow of the Erdtree might see a release date in February - just in time for the game’s second anniversary - if an accidental retailer leak is to be believed.
Publisher Bandai Namco and developer Omega Force have announced One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 downloadable content characters Shanks and Coby, who will launch alongside Uta as part of the game’s “One Piece Film: Red Pack” on January 11, 2024.
Anticipation surrounding Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has been sky high pretty much since the day it was announced, though details on the expansion and when it will launch have been scant. Interestingly, however, new developments could be suggesting that its release might be closer than many would have expected.
One new Elden Ring mod makes all enemies immobile as long as you don’t blink, channeling the most terrifying Doctor Who monsters.
Yuta Okkotsu and Suguru Geto from Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will be playable characters in Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash, publisher Bandai Namco and developer Byking announced.
Can you believe it's already been over four hundred years since Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree expansion was announced? And while this year's Game Awards failed to make the interminable wait any easier with a first trailer or some small morsel of news for fans, we might finally have something resembling a potential release window — courtesy of a retailer leak, by way of an official Bandai Namco partner, pointing to a February 2024 launch for the DLC.
Publisher Bandai Namco and developer Byking have released a new trailer for two-versus-two action game Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash introducing the gameplay systems.

Samsung will slowly shift away from producing lithium-ion batteries as its sub-division called Samsung SDI is reportedly developing solid-state batteries with an aim to launch the new technology a few years from now. A new team has also been formed to help the Korean giant reach its intended production goal.
After the deadly (and delightful) card game of Inscryption, creator Daniel Mullins is returning to his happy land of little horses. Today he announced Pony Island 2: Panda Circus, a new genre-shifting curio described as "a phantasmagorical voyage through time, myth, divinity, and video games." I like that this description is likely wholly earnest and accurate. This news came during the pre-show for Geoff Keighley's Shopping Hour and if a game like this is relegated to the pre-show, I can only assume the main event will include Half-Life 3, Elden Ring 2, and Deus Ex 5.
