Bungie surprise-dropped the name for Destiny 2 Season 23, it’s Season of the Wish, and players are roasting Bungie in the comments… for good reason. Prepare for an onslaught of wish jokes.
I get most of my gaming news on Instagram, and the second I saw that Bungie revealed that the name of Season 23 is Season of the Wish, I ran to the comments section to watch people cook.

The top two comments are my favorites: wndrboy10 goes in with the “Season of the Wish you didn’t lay off half your staff,” and kanxander finishes them with, “Season of Wish they didn’t fire Michael Salvatori.”
If you’ve missed the last week of Bungie news, the scoop is that Bungie laid off around 100 employees because Destiny 2 isn’t currently as profitable as they’d like it to be and The Final Shape wasn’t going in the direction they needed it to be. As sad and wild as that is, the really crazy part is they fired Michael Salvatori, the composer behind every song you heard from Halo 1 to Destiny 2 Lightfall.
Season of Wish you would actually start listening to your fan base.
On Twitter (or X), ashley. sums it up perfectly, “Season of Wish you would actually start listening to your fan base.” In the community’s eyes, Bungie has fumbled hard and it’s gonna take a lot for them to recover. Morale is at an all-time low, especially for long-time players, and it’s time for Bungie to really start listening to their fan base and making meaningful changes.
The last time Bungie delayed an Expansion and kept us in an elongated Season was Season of the Lost, which was ironically also a Taken-themed Season. Though there weren’t layoffs the last time an Expansion was delayed which makes this one much worse, people are already calling Season of the Wish Season of the Lost 2.0.
Season of the Lost lasted for 182 days, about six months, and Season of the Wish is expected to last all the way up to The Final Shape which means it’ll be live for a little more than six months. Hopefully, you’re prepared to settle in and grind a Season for more than six months… or you can just start playing a different game.
