Dead by Daylight's new killer, The Unknown, has some interesting and unique interactions with Weakened survivors. While not much is known regarding the aptly-named The Unknown, Dead by Daylight players have already started to uncover many details about it during the latest PTB.
Dead by Daylight's latest killer is literally an unknown mystery. It is a humanoid creature that seems to be trying to emulate the behavior of humans. There has been no explanation what species the creature is, but it can create husks of itself that it can also swap locations with. The Unknown also uses a deadly toxin which can cause the Weakened status. In this state, Weakened survivors will lose a health state if they are touched by a blast area, but they can also recover from the state if they stare down The Unknown. However, detailed players may have also discovered something interesting about this new status effect.
In a Reddit post by ToranMramor9, they shared a clip noting the differences in The Unknown's speech patterns when interacting with a healthy survivor versus a Weakened character. In the video, a regular character can hear the killer's mumbled voice lines. However, when interacting with a Weakened survivor, the sentences become clear and audible. This may imply that a survivor suffering from the affliction may be more impaired and may fall prey to Dead by Daylight's The Unknown. The creepy notion that the Killer is able to trick survivors as the match carries on means that if they're not careful, The Unknown can take advantage.
Sadly, only a select few characters have voice lines in the game. In a sense, it would have been great if The Unknown could mimic the survivors' speech patterns to create confusion during the match and add a unique flavor not yet utilized by the game's killers. As Dead by Daylight's communication is limited to emotes, it does create a feeling of isolation and despair. However, it does feel like a missed opportunity to take advantage of this small, intricate detail.
Still, The Unknown is one of the more interesting original killers that Behaviour has introduced in a while. With Dead by Daylight's team trying to refresh the game, many fans expect that a lot of new features, functions, and game modes would help create a fresh experience for gamers. That's what PTBs are for anyway. It's a chance for the development team to try out new things, balance new features, and create new opportunities in the game. January 2024's Lights Out mode, while meant to tie in with Alan Wake's introduction, seems to be inspired by The Dredge's powers. So there might be a chance that these subtle details could play a role in future updates.
