Today at Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in London, Square Enix revealed the upcoming job releasing with the next expansion, Dawntrail. Today's keynote also showcased more of the upcoming land of Tural, as well as dropped a new extended teaser trailer for the expansion.
The new class is meant as a melee DPS class, and is the first of two DPS jobs coming with Dawntrail, the second of which is a magic DPS. The Viper strikes opponents with brutal and quick attacks using dual swords, though they can be attached at the pommels to create one large dual-bladed weapon to deal more devastating blows.
The new class, which FFXIV director Naoki Yoshida dressed in cosplay as at the Fan Festival in London, is designed so that you needn't have a base class — you'll start at level 80 in Ul'dah when you choose to pick up the blades of the Viper in Dawntrail.
Viper moves between its dual-wield and dual-blade stances to deal damage and pressure opponents, though Yoshida warns that the class is «technically demanding.» It's compared to the other dual-wielding job, the. Ninja, though, with more style.
You can check out the new class in action in the class gameplay trailer below. Also shown off at Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival London was an extended version of the Dawntrail teaser trailer, which shows the Warrior of Light put on a display with the new class. You can catch that in the embed below as well. Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail was announced at Fan Festival 2023 in Las Vegas this past summer, and is slated to release sometime in summer 2024.
