Shadows Of The Damned launched during a fascinating part of the PS3 era, where EA suddenly started publishing smaller titles, like the equally iconic Alice: Madness Returns. The business model didn’t last long, but we’re still grateful for the aforementioned third-person shooter, which was co-designed by industry icons Suda51 and Shinji Mikami. And as previously reported it’s getting a PS5 and PS4 remaster, due out later this year.
The release, appropriately subtitled Hella Remastered, promises to “take players on a wild ride with demon hunter Garcia Hotspur, as he kicks demon ass and makes his way through the darkest depths of Hell, lighting up the darkness with his burning passion on a mission to rescue his true love from an insidious demon king”.
The original game had some truly bonkers moments, like one chapter where you needed to use your Big Boner (a sniper rifle) to take out a giant demon lady. It was pretty, ahem, hard.
There’s no specific release date for the remaster just yet, but you can add the title to your PlayStation wishlist through here. Will you be revisiting this cult classic? Let us know in the comments section below.

Definitely buying this but still unbelievably upset that EA didn't let the creator of Alice Madness Returns make a sequel let alone give the guy the IP since they aren't even using it.
@Nepp67 Heck, I'd just take a remaster of Madness Returns to be honest!
@get2sammyb Same here, I did buy it on PC though a while back and I love, love, love the art style and theme of the game!
Really enjoyed this game on the PS3, probably why I enjoyed Evil West so much as that also had the B movie vibe! If they drop a physical version I will happily pick it up again!
Fantastic game, one of my favorites on PS3. Really glad it's getting new life as it deserves.
They better release a Let's get Physical Helladition

@Nepp67 just playing this game on deck. Fun game especially those combat. Amazing theme and style though
Probably won't revisit this, but definitely a fun, sophomoric game. Certainly the Suda game with the most solid gameplay.
Mikami left Microsoft to work on the sequel for this.
@CthulhuFhtagn @amatmulisha killer 7 absolutely deserves a remake!
I loved this game as a kid lol
Also from time to time I talked about this game to make my point about how I hate being

The early months of 2024 have seen Microsoft stepping up its efforts to bring its first-party Xbox titles to audiences on rival platforms, with Hi-Fi Rush having released for PS5 and Obsidian duo Pentiment and Grounded both having launched for PS5 and Switch. Sea of Thieves arrives for PS5 later this month, and though Microsoft hasn’t officially announced further plans to bring any other of its games to rival consoles beyond that, reports continue to insist that there’s more stuff in the pipeline.

When it comes to cult classics, you probably won't be able to find a developer out there as consistent with them as Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture. No More Heroes, Lollipop Chainsaw, and Shadows of the Damned are all very well-liked games that never blew anyone away in terms of sales, but the quirky and unique elements of Suda's games have given him a very loyal and adoring fanbase.
Shadows of the Damned was released way back in 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as a collaboration between two of the most iconic Japanese video game makers: Shinji Mikami (of Resident Evil fame) and Goichi Suda, otherwise known as Suda51. Although the hyper-violent, third-person corridor shooter/action-adventure romp didn't make waves with its sales, critics were pretty positive. And now, after 13 long years, Grasshopper and Suda are bringingShadows of the Damned back with theHella Remastered edition, launching sometime this year.
