Toys for Bob has reportedly entered a deal with Xbox to develop a new game that's similar to its previous work.
This comes just weeks after Toys for Bob, fondly remembered for the revivals of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon, went independent from its parent company, Activision Blizzard, which is now owned by Xbox. Now, according to a report from Windows Central, the newly indie Toys for Bob is going straight to Xbox, bypassing Activision Blizzard altogether.
According to sources speaking with Windows Central, Xbox will fund Toys for Bob's first game. These sources also described the game as similar to the studio's previous work, although it's not clear if this means we're getting more Crash and Spyro games. In any case, if true, it does mean we can expect the team to make a game in the same genre.
Thanks to Xbox's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the gaming giant now owns Crash and Spyro, and could agree to have Toys for Bob continue its work on the series. This would likely be the best outcome for the indie studio, as the report also states there were issues between the team and its previous owners. Whatever game comes from this rumoured Xbox deal, it would hopefully allow Toys for Bob to retain its autonomy over its own workplace, particularly after it was said to have taken a huge hit in a round of layoffs right before going indie.
The last game Toys for Bob developed, Crash Team Rumble , launched in June 2023. Despite being a live service, it's already received its final update, as it received mixed reviews from fans and critics.
Toys for Bob was founded in 1989 and has seen huge changes during its 35 years in the industry. At one point publishing games for Crystal Dynamics, it was acquired by Activision in 2005, which merged with Blizzard in 2008. Activision Blizzard as a whole was then acquired by Microsoft last year, also swallowing up its numerous subsidiaries like Toys for Bob. With so many workers now under the Xbox umbrella - and during a time when the industry was already incredibly volatile - Xbox laid off around 1,900 workers across all of its companies. Toys for Bob was said to be hit particularly hard, right before it announced that it was breaking off from its parent company.
We'll have to wait and see if this deal is officially announced by both parties and if so, what game will come from this.

Apple has plans to jump into the robotics category, with an earlier report stating that the company’s engineers are exploring a machine that can move around a person’s home and perform daily tasks such as washing dishes. While the technology giant can form grand plans on how it will enter a certain market, it is not necessary that it arrives early, and assuming that it does, immediate success is not guaranteed. In the latest report, people familiar with the matter said that the firm could get into a new section, but it would take years to commercialize a product.
