CEO of Palworld dev says he's seen death threats, asks people not to slander the artists working on the game

Calling Palworld the surprise hit of the year would be quite the understatement. Even the game’s biggest proponents wouldn’t have predicted that it would go on to see the sort of success it has seen, accruing over 19 million players, selling over 12 million units on Steam, and becoming the biggest third-party launch on Game Pass to date. That surprising success, in fact, has caught developer Pocketpair off-guard to the extent that the studio finds itself severely understaffed for the level of support the game currently needs, not just for maintenance, but also for future content additions.

Palworld creator Pocketpair has acknowledged it is «overwhelmingly short» of developers to help the viral hit maintain momentum.

Palworld developer Pocket Pair has announced a partnership with mobile game developer KLab Games to create a new «hybrid-casual» game with the popular indie developer. Pocket Pair took the world by storm with the launch of its newest game earlier this month, with Palworld drawing plenty of comparisons to Pokemon for its adorable creatures. The game also features a plethora of survival elements, featuring a fully explorable open-world and base-building gameplay. Now, developer Pocket Pair is looking to translate its recent success into the mobile game market.

In response to player concerns, a Palworld developer has assured fans that the future PvP mode will avoid falling into the same pitfalls as other survival multiplayer titles such as Rust. These concerns were sparked by the release of Palworld’s roadmap that detailed future features such as new islands, Pals, bosses, and more, as well as the controversial potential addition of a PvP mode.

Apple plans to introduce significant changes to the iOS App Store, allowing users to download apps from third-party sources. The company is reaching a deadline imposed by the EU under the Digital Markets Act, which requires the company to allow the installation of apps from outside the App Store. The company has until March 6 to implement the app sideloading, and iOS 17.4 appears to be the update that will bring the necessary changes.

The producer of Palworld and CEO of developer Pocketpair, Takuro Mizobe, has reiterated that the Palworld developers “have absolutely no intention of infringing upon the intellectual property of other companies.” 

The Palworld developers are reportedly receiving death threats, seemingly over the similarities between the game's creature designs and Pokemon. Palworld combines Minecraft-style survival mechanics with the thrill of monster catching to great effect. The game has been a massive success out of the gate, selling over 5 million copies despite being early access and readily available to play through Xbox Game Pass.
