One Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 player discovers a developer message hidden in plain sight while investigating a magazine stand on the Rio map. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a constantly evolving title, following in the footsteps of its predecessors once Activision fully embraced the live service gaming model. Whether it's with seasonal content or smaller updates, players always have something new to look forward to when booting the game up.
To help keep the multiplayer component fresh, Modern Warfare 3 consistently adds new game modes on a rotating cycle, as well as fresh maps. Earlier this month, Season 2 Reloaded launched for Modern Warfare 3, and with it came a remastered version of the Call of Duty: Vanguard map Das Haus, moving from a World War 2 training facility to the top of a modern skyscraper. Joining it are updated versions of Airborne and the newly renamed Skidgrow, Modern Warfare 3's take on classic competitive maps from the franchise's past. Easter eggs and secrets are a big part of the history of Call of Duty, and one player used their detective skills to locate a hidden message.
Taking to the Modern Warfare 3 subReddit, a user named skipearth used their weapon scope to investigate magazines on a store rack while playing on the Season 1 Reload map called Rio. To their surprise, the text on the magazine cover wasn't just legible, it actually contained a message from one of the Call of Duty developers just in case a player stopped to investigate. As it turns out, the message reads: «Still reading text on a made-up magazine? Well then, how is your game going? You winning?»
The discovery quickly caught on with the community, with many loving the little detail from one of the developers. Some users in the comments also provided examples of other hidden messages in past games, such as the Convoy map in Black Ops 1, which displayed wanted posters of a kid for «pwning noobs.» Another user named Gundroog also praised the amount of care added to many of the Modern Warfare 3 maps such as Derail and the various stores that players could walk into and examine all of the fake products, decorations, and shelves stocked with products.
It seems players will have some new locations to explore this week as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Ranked Play is set to receive two new maps on March 25. Known as Vista and Departures, players will be able to play them through Hardpoint, Control, and Search and Destroy game modes. With Treyarch in charge of these additions, the studio is asking for player feedback after they're added, hoping to verify if either map is ready to also make the jump to the Call of Duty League's competitive pool as well.
