Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 PC Requirements Revealed, Up to 149 GB Space Required

A hefty new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III patch is here, bringing with it major fixes to stability and map balance while adding in DLSS 3 support for PC players with RTX 40 GPUs. But not all of the updates were able to make the cut, forcing Sledgehammer to push them to the next patch.

The Call of Duty franchise may not have ever been immune to backlash and criticism from critics and audiences alike, though they have always maintained at least respectable scores- until now, that is. The newest entry in the series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, has been widely panned, to the point that it’s the series’ worst-reviewed mainline entry to date.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is out worldwide, and while the campaign has garnered backlash, it’s facing significant issues in other departments. Quarry, Rundown and Scrapyard were removed from Hardpoint with Sledgehammer Games investigating unfavorable spawns, and the Ping functionality is temporarily disabled in Search and Destroy due to exploits in Public Matches.

Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launched worldwide before the weekend amid the backlash against the campaign. Whether that impacted its sales performance, its physical launch sales in the UK are 25 percent lower than Modern Warfare 2 (2022), as per Gfk.

Sledgehammer Games reportedly pitched Call of Duty Advanced Warfare 2, its follow-up to 2014's Advanced Warfare, only for it to be shelved in order to create Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. This reportedly led to heavy development crunch within the studio.

The previous king of nail-biting FPS campaigns has proven it needs some time off from annual releases with 's campaign. Sledgehammer Games has helped develop many titles since 's original release on generation three consoles in 2011, but 2023's 's campaign fails to include exciting features to help it stand out.

Time was that you knew exactly what you were going to get from a new Call of Duty game. After the original Modern Warfare took the world by storm in 2007, each year brought a new game, alternating developers and narrative arcs, a remixed multiplayer, and a tight 6-8 hour campaign that pushed one spectacular set piece after another (and with the odd controversial moment thrown in to get the tabloids excited). That’s not the case anymore, though, with much greater highs and lows from one game to the next, and this year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 looks to be a prime example of this.
