Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Campaign Early Access is Now Live

Activision has said its new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has broken multiple player engagement records, without providing any specific player numbers.

For the first time in franchise history, Call of Duty has released a direct sequel to the previous year’s title with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Continuing the new rebooted series that began in 2019, the latest entry in the long-running FPS series sees the return of the original trilogy’s most infamous villains: Vladimir Makarov. Sledgehammer Games reportedly pitched Call of Duty Advanced Warfare 2, its follow-up to 2014's Advanced Warfare, only for it to be shelved in order to create Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. This reportedly led to heavy development crunch within the studio.

Activision's rollout of the new «Call of Duty HQ» launcher has been anything but elegant. The HQ, which is really just a rebranded frontend for a single CoD game, is the only way to launch the new Modern Warfare 3, and until yesterday, that process was a real slog. To play MW3, you had to first launch the CoD HQ, then click MW3, then return to the desktop, then wait for the actual game you wanted to play to boot.

The previous king of nail-biting FPS campaigns has proven it needs some time off from annual releases with 's campaign. Sledgehammer Games has helped develop many titles since 's original release on generation three consoles in 2011, but 2023's 's campaign fails to include exciting features to help it stand out.
