Call of Duty Fans Wave Goodbye to the Original Warzone, Which Shuts Down Forever Today

Ever since the beginning of its lifetime, the Nintendo Switch Online service has had some “curious” things going on that gamers can’t quite understand. The “Expansion Pack” was one of them, although that’s gotten better in recent times, and some of the “exclusives” that you can get via the service haven’t always been worth their time. However, with Pac-Man 99 and others of the “99” kind, it was a different story. They were simple twists on classic titles that ensured that people were having fun. But now, in another curious movie, the game’s online services have been shut down, and the game has been delisted from the platform.

The New York-based indie studio Dang is closing after releasing only one game, but what a game. The hyper-fast and movement-focused Boomerang X released in 2021 and was notable among other things for supporting an experimental type of gyro controller, the Flick Stick, as well as mouse-and-keyboard, so that players could whizz its deadly shuriken-boomerang around in the fanciest of patterns. The game sits with around 800 "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews on Steam though, judging by this announcement, that sadly didn't translate to sales.

The region was first featured in the reimagined 2019 MW game and is playable on the endless respawn-enabled Plunder mode, as well. Set on the eastern border of the Black Sea, this map comes with 11 unique points of interest, peppered with horizontal ziplines and drivable trains for better traversal.

A Telltale representative stated the company is working to support everyone impacted by the layoffs.

Nintendo has announced that online play and functionality for the Wii U and 3DS consoles will shut down in April 2024, just over one year after the eShop for both systems closed down.
