Bungie Teases Fans With Upcoming Expansion Reveal – The Final Shape

Over the years, Bungie’s seminal live-service FPS Destiny 2 has received no less than seven major pieces of post-launch DLC, with at least one more – The Final Shape – due to come out next year, in 2024. But which of those was good? Which of them was bad? Why is 2023’s Lightfall sitting at an ‘Overwhelmingly Negative’ review rating on Steam? And why did the game lose massive batches of content in the years prior? One thing is for sure: Destiny 2‘s history is remarkably complex and storied, and this article aims to look at it with a specific objective in mind: ranking all Destiny 2 expansions.

Destiny 2‘s The Final Shape reveal has come and gone, and, as it turns out, the community isn’t too thrilled about it. Due to launch on February 27, 2024, the long-awaited The Final Shape expansion pack is supposed to fully wrap up the franchise’s seminal Light and Dark saga. With the clash between the two primordial forces officially coming to a close and/or cooling off into a state of equilibrium, some Destiny fans may have expected Bungie to go all-out with a new elemental subclass, a new race of enemies to fight, and more. That, however, isn’t happening for the most part.

During yesterday's annual showcase event, Bungie unveiled Destiny 2: The Final Shape. The new expansion for the online first-person shooter game is due for release on February 27th, 2024.

Bungie officially revealed the details for its upcoming Destiny 2 DLC The Final Shape today, the conclusion of its “Light and Darkness” saga that started all the way back in 2014. The Final Shape will debut on Feb. 27.

Bungie has given Destiny 2's next expansion, The Final Shape, a thorough unveiling, confirming it'll whisk players to the «infinite, vast, unknowable» Pale Heart within the Traveler when it launches on 27th February next year.

On Tuesday, Bungie officially unveiled Destiny 2: The Final Shape in its yearly Destiny Showcase. We got a glimpse at the cinematic trailer, a look into the new location (which is inside the mysterious traveler), the “return” of Cayde-6, and so much more. Bungie also dove into what’s happening to Destiny 2 once the studio ends the “Light and Darkness saga” in 2024.

Bungie just wrapped up a showcase in which it pulled the curtain back on The Final Shape, the concluding expansion in the saga that has been running since Destiny launched way back in 2014. Last week, game director Joe Blackburn was at pains to point out that this livestream was intended to appeal to as broad an audience as possible, but when you've got developers giddily dropping lines like: «The Witness wants to use the Pale Heart of The Traveller to enact the Final Shape», I think it's fair to say that there's still quite a lot to unpick, even for veteran players like me. Having watched the showcase, here's the stuff that stood out.

The next expansion for Bungie's Destiny 2 is coming next February. Titled "The Final Shape," the continuation of the MMOFPS storyline takes players inside the Traveler itself. Also coming are new Episodes, replacing the current Seasonal model for Destiny 2.
