What are the best The Simpsons games? When The Simpsons first aired in late 1989, few could have anticipated its cultural impact. While its appeal may have waned slightly over the past 30 years, it remains the longest running American animated series, racking up over 700 episodes and counting. Created by Matt Groening and depicting the exploits of an average, everyday family, its cast of characters – including the titular Simpsons – have become household names.
Unsurprisingly, with such long-running success, there have been a number of video game tie-ins, with many coming on the NES and SNES during the franchise’s early 90s explosion. The number of releases has cooled off in subsequent years, as overall interest in The Simpsons has naturally plateaued, but there are still several PlayStation titles inspired by the show that have become cult classics.
Perhaps most interesting of all is how versatile The Simpsons franchise has proven. Over the course of the past three decades, it’s played host to driving games, wrestling games, open world games, and even skateboarding games. That underlying flexibility has resulted in some sharp ups-and-downs for Springfield’s most famous family, but the likes of The Simpsons: Hit & Run are still very much coveted today, 20 years after first releasing.

Similarly to The Simpsons Skateboarding, which launched on the PS2 a year or so later, The Simpsons Wrestling was a TV show tie-in chasing trends. At the time, WWF titles were huge on PlayStation, and so throwing the likes of Barney Gumble and Groundskeeper Willie into a wrestling ring no doubt made sense to the group of money-motivated executives who signed off on the project. Unfortunately, developer Big Ape Productions delivered a sloppy experience, with laggy controls and a complete and utter lack of gameplay balance. The visuals were somewhat impressive for the PS1, but this was a critical disaster that was panned by practically every publication upon its release in 2001.

With just a touch of bravado, the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (or Europol) has announced «a major blow» to the Ragnar Locker ransomware group. To you and me, that name is mostly familiar because of the organisation's 2020 attack on Capcom, which saw it demand $11 million and affect around 400,000 people's data.
Today, October 23, is Fallout Day, also known as Bombs Drop Day. For those not hip to the lingo, October 23, 2077, is the day of the world-ending Great War in the Fallout mythos: A full-scale thermonuclear war between the US and China that annihilated nations, killed billions, and threw the global climate into a state of complete catastrophe. Hooray!

It is the rumoured sequel to 2013's GTA 5 which has become the second best-selling video game of all time, raising the bar of open-world gameplay. While Rockstar Games has officially confirmed the development of GTA 6, no other details have been revealed yet.

Sony is using the opportunity of the PS5’s smaller, slimmer relaunch to stealthily bump the price of the Digital Edition in the United States. While we already know you’ll need to pay extra for a standalone vertical stand, the organisation has also made the decision to hike the overall cost of the non-Blu-ray unit by $50. This means, moving forwards, the disc-less device will increase from an MSRP of $399.99 to $449.99.
As we’re all gradually coming to terms with, physical media is on the way out. The video games market is slowly transitioning to digital sales, and the switch has occurred even more abruptly in other industries, where most people prefer to stream movies and music these days. Best Buy, one of the United States’ largest retailers, is allegedly planning to phase out all physical media next year.
The new PS5, colloquially known as the PS5 Slim, will replace the original model next month – and its main selling point is its detachable disc drive. For Sony, this design tweak will streamline its manufacturing process – but for consumers, it’ll also provide flexibility. The remodelled machine will also come in 30 per cent smaller than its predecessor, which is a significant footprint reduction.
