After years of development, Baldur's Gate 3 has finally launched on PC, and it's quickly putting up big numbers. On Steam, the game has exceeded 400,000 concurrent players just hours after launch. A day later, the figure has climbed above 500,000.
Larian boss Swen Vincke said the IT team at Larian was informed that they should expect about 100,000 or so at the maximum, so they are probably working hard to make sure things stay smooth for everyone. Larian's director of publishing, Michael Douse, said the 500,000 figure is «just mind blowing.»

Baldur's Gate 3 is one of 2023's biggest PC launches, beating out titles like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and the Resident Evil 4 remake by some initial metrics. Baldur's Gate 3 is the top-selling game on Steam right now.
Larian Studios founder and creative director Swen Vincke released a nice message to herald the game's launch. He wrote, «I'm super proud of what our team accomplished and I hope you will have an incredible amount of fun exploring what we prepared for you.»
Larian worked on the game for more than six years, with more than 400 people contributing to its development. While the game is officially launching today, it came out earlier on Steam early access, where more than 2.5 million people played and provided feedback.
«The result is a beautiful, rich universe where you can escape from your daily worries, experience adventure and wonder, and have many many cool and exciting encounters. It's a place where your identity and choices matter, where surprise lies around every corner, and where your agency is truly rewarded,» Vincke said.

The hit D&D RPG Baldur's Gate 3 is coming to Xbox Series X and S "this year," as Larian Studios boss Swen Vincke has now confirmed.
Larian Studios has rolled back the latest Baldur's Gate 3patch for causing crashes, but recent saves have been made temporarily unplayable.
Larian Studios has two patches in the works for Baldur’s Gate 3 — the first targeting over 1,000 bug fixes and tweaks to the Dungeons & Dragons-based role-playing game and feelgood hit of the summer. The second will move on from mere bug-squashing and will start incorporating some of players’ most requested features.
Baldur's Gate III is prepared to receive its first patch and by the looks of it, it seems like a huge one. Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke confirmed a roadmap on Twitter, promising to fix issues and make relevant tweaks to ability balances, based on user suggestions. First up, is hotfix #4, which would make some emergency fixes to crashes and progressions blocks, in addition to any bugs that hinder the general interface. That will be followed by the massive patch, boasting over 1,000 fixes, followed by patch 2, which will ‘incorporate some requests.' It's unclear what those requests could be, but we already know that the team is planning an update that would let players change their character's appearance mid-game.
Larian Studios confirms that the first major Baldur's Gate 3 update will feature 1,000 fixes and tweaks.
Larian boss Swen Vincke has revealed that the studio is currently working on a number of updates to critically-acclaimed RPG Baldur’s Gate 3. Among updates coming to the game, it is slated to get Hotfix 4, its first major patch with over 1,000 fixes and tweaks, and a second patch that will bring in some fan-requested features to the game.
Following Baldur's Gate 3's wildly successful PC launch and a few bug-squashing hotfixes, Larian CEO Swen Vincke says that the D&D RPG will get one more hotfix (there have been three so far) before its first big patch, which will include "+1,000 fixes and tweaks." That patch will then be followed by—and you might've been able to guess this—another patch, one which'll start to respond to player suggestions.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is easily one of the best Steam Deck games you can play today, but it’s unfortunately lacking the split screen feature available on desktop PCs. However, try as Larian might to keep this feature off the Steam Deck, this hasn’t stopped Baldur’s Gate 3 fans from finding a way to restore this functionality on the handheld.
Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian has issued an emergency hotfix that changes the way personal story databases work because players had maxed them out.
Baldur's Gate 3 is an exceptional game: a grognardy CRPG with complex and barely-explained D&D rules and a massive mainstream success, even before its console releases. With Diablo 4's always-online grind providing the perfect contrast, it's come across to some as a victory over malignant modern videogame trends: Where other companies build cosmetics stores and battle passes, Larian has succeeded through good old fashioned respect for player freedom and quality craftwork, or so goes some popular posts and articles. A handful of game developers, meanwhile, have cautioned against oversimplifying the lesson, arguing that Baldur's Gate 3 is an anomaly that even big studios won't be able to replicate. Online arguing has ensued.
