To unlock the Returning Pike in , players have to follow some specific actions, though it is not too hard. The only issue is knowing where to look and getting past a few Charisma-based checks to avoid starting a conflict. The Returning Pike is an Uncommon weapon that can be found early on in the game, as it is part of Act 1. Aside from having pretty good offensive stats, especially during the game's first stages, it has a special skill called Homing Weapon.
The Homing Weapon perk, which is part of the Returning Pike, allows the weapon to automatically be returned to the user’s hand whenever it is thrown. As such, the equipping you can toss Returning Pike at an opponent in case you cannot move your character within their melee range and still deal damage without putting yourself at risk of becoming unarmed. Aside from Monks in , most other classes are at a disadvantage when unarmed, so having a weapon that can be thrown and then returned is quite special.
The first step in obtaining the Returning Pike is toward the Goblin Camp in . Although you can explore the map at your leisure, this will likely require some progress through Act 1. By playing naturally and visiting the Emerald Grove, you will eventually be sent to the Goblin Camp to free Halsin or side with the creatures. After getting through the Blighted Village, you must cross the bridge and head over to the Goblin Camp, where you will have to persuade the guard to allow you to enter with one of several methods.
You must enter the goblin camp as a friendly face; otherwise, the goblins will be aggressive toward you, and you will be blocked out from buying the Returning Pike. You can persuade, intimidate, and even use your illithid powers to get past the first goblin guard at the entrance to the fortress. Once that is done, you will need to make your way inside and, within the courtyard itself, where you will see Volo captured in, you may find a vendor named Grat the Trader. This goblin is willing to part ways with the Returning Pike for around 100 Gold.
If you kill Grat the Trader, the Returning Pike will NOT be lootable, so if you really want the weapon, you will have to buy it from him first.
In the game's early stages, that amount of money may seem like a lot, but it can prove to be a fair investment. The Returning Pike is an excellent option for certain Barbarian builds, which can be applied to Karlach and your custom character for high damage at a long distance. While better weapons are in the game, this is easily one of the best weapons in Act 1 of .
