Atari CEO on making 2600+ work with cartridges: "There's a beauty to it"

When I played Baldur's Gate 3 back in the autumn, I decided to roll with a Dark Urge Paladin, and it was such a fascinating experience that I wrote a whole article about it. But to give you the notes, combining a class that's sworn to abide by justice with a character who just flippin' loves murder creates an incredible internal conflict, leading to a character arc which, for me, felt like the closest you could come to a canonical playthrough of BG3.

Film studio A24 has revealed it's partnering with Kojima Productions to bring the live-action movie adaptation of Death Stranding to the big screen. To celebrate, a $40 t-shirt featuring the A24 logo in the style of Death Stranding is available to buy. While undeniably cool, you're essentially paying to promote a business deal. Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian decided "from the get-go" that the mammoth RPG wouldn't be coming to Xbox or PC Game Pass, and that isn't going to change.

Meta in September launched its new AI smart glasses in collaboration with Ray-Ban with an in-built voice assistant and cameras to capture amazing pictures and videos. During the launch Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg promised a new AI feature that would enable the AI tool to tell more about the surroundings, and now finally, the company has rolled out the update. Having swept at The Game Awards (TGAs) this year, including taking home Game of the Year (GOTY), you’d think the organizers would have given Swen Vincke, Larian Studio’s CEO and director of Baldurs Gate 3, a bit more time to thank the team and community. Sadly, that wasn’t the case.

Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke has taken to Twitter today and—in a thread celebrating both Baldur's Gate 3's numerous awards and runaway success—mentions the recent layoffs occurring at Dungeons & Dragons. He reveals that, «of the people who were in the original meeting room, there’s almost nobody left.»

Swen Vincke, the CEO of Larian Studios, has shared what he wanted to say in his acceptance speech at The Game Awards.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the Electronic Entertainment Expo — better known as E3 — has been permanently shut down, following its cancellation in 2020, 2022, and 2023 (and shift online in 2021). Now, Stanley Pierre-Louis, the president and CEO of the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which organized E3, has spoken more about the reasoning behind the decision.

Marvel has some major success stories in gaming in recent years with Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, but at the same time, the company has also endured some failures. Take, for instance, Eidos Montreal’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which enjoyed solid critical reception but failed to sell to expectations, or Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers, which suffered an even worse fate, taking a beating on both fronts before being delisted earlier this year.

After years of delays, overpromising, obfuscated skepticism, and a healthy dose of all around skepticism within the community, The Day Before finally launched in early access last week, and instantly, the game was met with widespread negative reception from players. Things only got worse from there, because just four days after the game’s release, developer Fntastic announced in a statement that the game had failed financially, and that the studio was, as such, shutting down.

This year's blockbuster sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse followed in the footsteps of the original film by once again pushing the boundaries of both storytelling and animation.
