An Overwatch 2 gamer has highlighted an amazing play that has caused fans to demand more Support Plays of the Game. The Play of the Game has been a prominent Overwatch 2 feature since the beginning, but some players are calling for a change to it.
A Play of the Game highlights one of the most essential players of any given Overwatch 2 match. This play is showcased at the end of a match, and it typically focuses on a triple kill, a boop off the side of a map, or effective use of an Ultimate ability. Tank and Damage heroes are usually the center of these game-ending highlights, while Support characters are left to be endorsed or have their Overwatch 2 end-of-matchcard voted on based on their healing done. Despite this, Support heroes carry many matches and are often the reason a team wins. One player has shared a highlight that has sparked a conversation about the game highlighting more Support heroes in the Play of the Game.
Reddit user Jolly-Reward-2873 recently shared a video of a Highlight of the Overwatch 2 hero Lifeweaver, who was introduced in Season 4. He offers impressive healing and utility output that are beneficial to teammates. The video takes place on the Colosseo map, and the players are fighting on a tight corner that the escorted robot has to turn for a team to win. An allied Baptiste is sent off the map by an enemy Lucio's Soundwave before Liveweaver Life Grips them back and grows a Tree of Life. Lifeweaver then saves D.Va with some quick heals before countering a Zarya Ultimate ability with a Petal Platform, saving at least two players and possibly the game.
Despite this impressive teamwork on Colosseo, Jolly-Reward-2873's Highlight was not a Play of the Game. This has caused many fans to suggest that Blizzard should rework the Play of the Game system to consider more Overwatch 2 Support hero plays. Not only did the Lifeweaver rescue Baptiste from certain death, but their D.Va heals and the timing of their Ultimate likely played a key role in this team's success in fending off their opponents. This bend in the road is notorious in Colosseo for making or breaking matches for teams, and it's unclear if this play helped the team reach victory. Lifeweaver Plays of the Game are incredibly rare, and the fact that this one didn't make the cut hints at just how hard it is to get one.
Because Plays of the Game sometimes include pushing players off the side of the map, they aren't entirely driven by the number of kills a player gets in a short period of time. As Blizzard continues to update Overwatch 2, it may implement a system that favors Support heroes more than the current one.
