Alan Wake 2 Hit With 10-Day Delay

The scariest thing to video game developers isn’t ghosts or monsters, as the new Alone in the Dark game has been pushed to 2024, partly to avoid an incredibly busy October gaming season, where it would have competed with Alan Wake 2 and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. This is a wise decision, considering how packed 2023 has been as a whole, especially as Alone in the Dark also needs extra polish time.

The developer recently showcased Wake in The Dark Place, a nightmare reality based on a person’s subconscious. In his case, it’s a replica of New York City.

Remedy Entertainment recently announced that it had pushed back Alan Wake 2’s launch by 10 days to later in October, stating that it was moving to a later window due to the crowded release schedule for mid-October this year.

At Gamescom Opening Night Live 2023, Remedy Entertainment debuted a new trailer of Alan Wake 2, finally giving us a new look at the titular protagonist and The Dark Place, after previously having focused on newcomer Saga Anderson, who’s in Bright Falls. That’s not all, however, because Alan Wake 2 gameplay footage is also starting to emerge from Gamescom, and the survival horror title is continuing to look impressive.

At Gamescom 2023, Remedy Entertainment showed GamesRadar+ an exclusive gameplay demo that descended into the Dark Place, the prison that has held Wake for 13 years. It's here where the shift towards survival horror is most stark – a twisted New York City, suffocating beneath a sheet of rain, where twisting figures stand in every shadow.

Alan Wake 2 promises to be a fairly different game from its predecessor, and that’s a good thing. While the atmosphere and setting of the original Alan Wake in 2010 was certainly ominous and surreal, it’s held back by a rather clunky combat system. Fortunately, the move to a more pure survival horror game with Alan Wake 2 ensures that this won’t be the case again, something developer Remedy confirms with PCGamesN at Gamescom 2023.
