A Dreamcast rail shooter from 2000 that never released in the west is coming to PC

I recently had the opportunity to check out the first episode of Shangri-La Frontier, a new anime about a VRMMORPG. Now, this genre in particular has gotten a bit saturated in recent years due to the success of Sword Art Online, Log Horizon, and even Ready Player One. However, the art style of the trailer piqued my interest, and the press release indicated SLF would have a bit more of a focus on world-building and game mechanics.

The version 1.4 update for Honkai: Star Rail, dubbed “Jolted Awake From a Winter Dream,” will launch on October 11 alongside the release of the PlayStation 5 version, developer miHoYo announced.

Sega has canceled upcoming multiplayer shooter Hyenas and some other unannounced titles in a bid to improve profitability.

NIS America will re-release excellent JRPGs Trails of Cold Steel 3 and Trails of Cold Steel 4 as a PS5 duology in 'early 2024'. The two games are currently available separately on PS4, but the publisher now has a history of porting Falcom titles to Sony's current-gen console. Ys 8 and Ys 9 are two such examples.

In the opening hall of the Makuhari Messe this Tokyo Game Show was an enormous, monolithic tribute to HoYoverse, a company fast becoming one of PlayStation’s most important developers. While the juggernaut Chinese studio may not get the same recognition as the likes of Naughty Dog or FromSoftware, its games are absolutely colossal in scale – and to underline our point, the company is registering greater profit margins than the entirety of Sony’s gaming division right now.

There’s been a lot of talk about Phil Spencer and Xbox lately due to the leaked email issue that flooded the news channels last week. The brand and Microsoft were put under the spotlight in the worst way because of past statements that were made public by accident because of the FTC court battle they won. But even with those issues, Spencer is still taking time to build up the Xbox brand and assure gamers that big things are coming. For example, you might know that the Xbox line has never done well in Japan sales-wise.

Back in 2019, iconoclastic Japanese indie creators Goichi “Suda51” Suda (No More Heroes, Killer 7, Let it Die) and Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro (Deadly Premonition, The Good Life) announced they would be teaming up on a horror-flavored game named Hotel Barcelona. In the years since we’ve heard very little about this team up, but when pressed, Suda and Swery have continued to insist it was happening. Well, during this year’s Tokyo Game Show Hotel Barcelona was finally revealed, and it looks every bit as strange as you’d expect.

NIS America will release The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam in summer 2024 in the west, the publisher announced. It will feature English and Japanese audio options, and English text.

Clouded Leopard Entertainment will release voxel third-person shooter Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Switch in Asia in English in 2024, the publisher announced. The Asian version will support English, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese audio, and English, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese text.
