Despite being released on Steam on April Fools' Day, the enemies of are no joke. Its monster roster is impressive for an indie horror title, with each feeling unique in its mechanics and design. Because of this, the many monsters of vary in both levels of danger and horror, with some being oddly cute and endearing while others stand proudly as nightmare fuel, able to keep even the bravest awake at night.
Following in the same vein as titles like , is a horror title all about catching whatever the players find on camera, but the purpose isn't to prove that these monstrosities exist. No, these brave souls are actually looking to go viral, and some of these monsters would be very capable of making footage famous if they were real. Some, however, would cause most to avert their eyes, so imagine how being right in front of them would feel.
The Slurper takes on the form of a malformed starfish with a barnacle-like mouth. Thanks to being largely stationary, these creatures are not the most frightening, especially if players keep their eyes on the ceiling, where Slurpers dwell. Still, in the dark, they can be hard to see, and any who mindlessly wander can quickly find themselves at the mercy of these starfish-like monsters.
Slurpers are able to grapple foes with a lure, a very difficult-to-see rope. Although a player can free themselves by throwing something at the monster, it is hard to do when playing solo. Of course, if a friend is on hand, then getting free is simpler, but the sudden fright of abruptly being hoisted up, especially when caught running from another monster, can give some of Hollywood's jumpscares a run for their money.
The Ear is relatively harmless in comparison to the other monsters in, since they rely on sound to know where to go. If one does approach a player, then simply shouting loudly through a microphone is enough to dissuade them. They don't do much damage either, but its deadliness isn't the reason why it is considered scary.
The Ear's malformed design and uncanny movement with its human hand-like feet is what makes it so creepy. It lurks around with a giant ear for a face, which is unsettling enough in and of itself, but its gangly limbs aid in making its strides feel so unnatural. The thought of trying not to make the slightest noise around this creature aids in the surrounding horror atmosphere, which likely does more for it than its actual attacks.
Because it is easy to scare off, the Ear is a good creature to capture on camera to get more views. If shouting at a mic isn't desirable, consider using a Shock Stick instead.
