For the first anniversary of the PSVR 2 headset, Sony dropped a PS Blog post making five big announcements for games that are coming to PlayStation VR 2 in the coming months. Heck, there was even a game launch and a free DLC update included for good measure!
Launching alongside the blog post was spellcasting action game The Wizards – Dark Times: Brotherhood, while Arizona Sunshine 2 got an update to let you have Corgi be your four-legged sidekick through the game. There’s also three more Horde maps, with a new one dropping each month from March through May.
Looking through the rest of the announcements, we had Zombie Army VR announced, Souls Covenant confirmed, and there’s release dates for Little Cities: Bigger! and Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate.
Let’s dive in:
Previously released on Meta Quest as a remastered and expanded version of the 2020 original, this action-adventure spellcasting game can be played solo or in 3-player co-op.
Purple Yonder’s diorama city builder has been ported to PSVR 2 with all of the updates and added content that they brought to the Meta Quest version over the past 18 months. It’s been enhanced with Sense controller haptics, headset feedback and more.
This time travelling shooter is coming to PSVR 2 and Meta Quest 2 + 3 on 27th June, with the new gameplay reveal trailer featuring a trip back to World War 2 to reshape the course of history.
The Zombie Army series is coming to VR for the first time, with developer XR Games partnering with Rebellion on this project. With support for 2-player online co-op, the game will be out across PSVR 2, Meta Quest 2, 3 and Pro, Oculus Rift, and PC headsets via Steam.
Previously announced for Meta Quest 2 and up, and for SteamVR, the JRPG of Soul Covenant is also coming to PlayStation VR 2. Set in a near-future Japan, you’ll be fighting off against a mech army with close melee-based combat. You’ll have buddies by your side in a squad of four, whether that’s NPCs or with other players.
So, what do you think to the new announcements? Personally, I’m wondering where Sony’s first party games are. We’ve not had anything new or even announced since the headset’s launch this time last year, and there’s a dearth of exclusive games (outside of the notable Resident Evil VR conversions) – every game here is also available on other VR platforms.
Perhaps this is why PSVR 2 is getting PC support later this year?
Publisher Phoenixx and Bandai Namco Studios subsidiary and developer GYAAR Studio have announced free-to-play titles BOOMEROAD, NOTTOLOT, and DORONKO WANKO for PC (Steam). All three games will launch on March 26.
Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Familia Myth – Fulland of Water and Light is an “action RPG that traces the trails and truths of heroes,” and will be available for Switch, publisher Bushiroad Games announced. It will only be available in Japanese.
A new Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut early comparison video was shared online, highlighting the differences between the PC and PlayStation 5 releases.
Niantic has officially announced Pokemon GO Fest 2024, revealing its dates, locations, and ticket prices, among other details. The biggest Pokemon GO event of the year will be held over three extended weekends starting in late May and will conclude with a global event in mid-July.
Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut, the open-world action-adventure game from Sucker Punch, is coming to PC, continuing the trend of first-party PlayStation titles releasing on Windows. The game will launch with the expected suite of PC features on May 16. The port, predictably, is helmed by veterans Nixxes Software, the Sony-owned studio that has previously worked on PC ports for first-party PlayStation titles like Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
Bandai Namco has announced Gakuen The Idolmaster for iOS and Android. It will launch this spring in Japan. Pre-registration is available now via App Store, Google Play, and the official website.
CyberStep visual novel game brand Rabbitfoot has announced Natsume Ryouran: High-Spec Noukin Youko no Renai Kitan for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, PC (Steam, BOOTH, DLsite), iOS, and Android. It will launch first for Switch and PC this summer in Japan.
City Connection has announced Hebereke Enjoy Edition, a new version of SUNSOFT‘s side-scrolling action adventure game Ufouria: The Saga for Switch. It will launch on March 28 for 1,490 yen with English and Japanese language support.
Arrowhead Game Studios has rolled out a new Helldivers 2 patch (version 1.000.13), which improves the login speed on PlayStation 5, and more.
The Pokemon Company and developers Creatures and DeNA have announced Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket for iOS and Android. It will launch in 2024 worldwide.
The Pokemon Company and developer Game Freak have announced Pokemon Legends: Z-A for Switch. It will launch in 2025 worldwide.
There are plenty of new shows this week, but I will do the rare cheat out and tell you I already have a favorite: Shōgun.
