Over the past week, Xbox fans have been thrown into turmoil by rumors that indicated everything from Starfield, to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, to the Gears of War franchise may jump to PlayStation and other platforms. Some leakers have since walked those rumors back, saying Starfield making the jump is unlikely, but the horse is already out of the barn and speculation about the future of Xbox is running wild. Microsoft itself hasn’t exactly doused those flames, as they haven’t stepped into deny anything, but instead promised a “business update event” for this week.
“We're listening and we hear you. We've been planning a business update event for next week, where we look forward to sharing more details with you about our vision for the future of Xbox. Stay tuned.”
Well, now a date and a few more details have been provided for said Xbox business update, which will take place this Thursday (February 15) at 12pm PT.
“Please join us for a special edition of the Official Xbox Podcast. Hear from Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond and Matt Booty as they share updates on the Xbox business.”
Surprisingly, this event is taking the form of a podcast, which indicates Team Xbox isn’t going to try to soften the blow of whatever they have to say with any trailers, flash, or hype. On the other hand, would Microsoft announce Xbox is going third party on a podcast? That seems rather unlikely to me. The podcast format would seem to hint this is going to be a slightly more informal discussion – what that might mean, is hard to say. One thing I’m pretty confident of is this will be the most listened-to episode of the Official Xbox Podcast to date.
What are your thoughts on all of this? Will you be listening in to the podcast? What do you think Spencer and company will announce? Of course, don’t worry, we’ll report on everything they say after the fact.
Microsoft has confirmed multiplatform release plans for four first-party titles.
Microsoft will bring four first-party titles to PS5, but it’s refusing to name which. Said titles will not include Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which will remain exclusive to Xbox and PC, until circumstances change. Xbox bigwig Phil Spencer, however, has seen the success of Helldivers 2 – and is struggling to see the advantage of the PlayStation-published shooter not being available on Xbox.
Microsoft just released the latest episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, and it contained lots of crucial details on the future of Xbox. Microsoft addressed everything from how many games it will make multiplatform to the arrival of Activision Blizzard games on Xbox Game Pass to future Xbox hardware.
Xbox's Phil Spencer has confirmed that two major Bethesda titles, Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, will not be going multiplatform. The announcement comes after recent rumors that the Xbox titles would be released on competing consoles.
Loosely in line with recent rumors, Microsoft Gaming boss Phil Spencer says Xbox is bringing four exclusive games to other consoles.
Well, Xbox most definitely isn't exiting the console business any time soon, with today's business update absolutely squashing any speculation that Xbox Series X would be Microsoft's final gaming console.
The president of Xbox, Sarah Bond, has confirmed that the company is already looking forward to the next-generation of hardware, and aims to deliver “the largest technical leap you will have ever seen in a hardware generation.”
Microsoft has confirmed that four unnamed Xbox exclusives will be released on other console platforms, such as PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch.
Now that Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard is fully over the line, and its games now fall underneath the Xbox umbrella, questions have been raised as to when we can expect the publisher's titles to be added to Game Pass. Xbox made it clear that all of its first-party titles will be available to play on Game Pass from the day of launch, and Activision Blizzard and its studios are now considered first-party developers.
Xbox revealed its "vision for the future" today in a podcast featuring executives Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond, and Matt Booty, who did their best to articulate the path forward for the platform amid reports of plans to embrace a third-party publishing strategy.
It's been an odd couple of weeks if you're an Xbox fan, with rumors flying that certain exclusives will be making their way to other consoles such as PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. Pretty much every Xbox exclusive you can think was rumored to be jumping over at some point, with Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, and Sea of Thieves being the three games fueling most of the rumors.
Microsoft reportedly told employees that it views “every screen [as] an Xbox” ahead of a much-anticipated business update.
