World of Warcraft executive producer and vice president Holly Longdale stated that players focused on PvE content will have a new experiment to play with in the coming weeks. The announcement from Longdale came just over a week after World of Warcraft launched Patch 10.2.6 and the limited-time Plunderstorm battle royale event.
Plunderstorm is an experimental, 60-player battle royale game mode that World of Warcraft players can try out in the game's modern client. Up to 60 players are thrust into the Arathi Basin to gather treasure and items. What players can scrounge up will be crucial to defeating other players and various creatures throughout the map. However, a storm will appear along the outer edges of the Arathi Basin and gradually force players to move towards a central point on the map to avoid being caught in it and eliminated. Since its launch, Plunderstorm has seen various adjustments to items that can drop, with Fire Whirl and Ice Arrow receiving nerfs after player feedback was considered.
While Plunderstorm is a PvP game mode by design, Longdale stated that World of Warcraft's dedicated PvE players will not be left out. In a brief Blizzard blog post, Longdale stated that the World of Warcraft development team plans on releasing more experimental game modes for players to experience. Longdale also confirmed that the next experiment is focused on PvE, but did not state what the experiment would entail. Longdale also encouraged players to tune into the upcoming Plunderstorm Creator Royale event on March 30 and stated that Plunderstorm feedback will continue to be gathered while the event remains active.
Longdale did not say when Plunderstorm would conclude, so World of Warcraft players still have time to clear out any outstanding Plunderstorm renown levels and achievements. Although Plunderstorm was a surprise on the World of Warcraft 2024 roadmap, another game mode called «Timerunning: Pandamonium» was among the listed features on the map. The Timerunning mode will arrive with Patch 10.2.7, Dark Heart, in the latter half of Spring 2024. Whether this is the PvE experiment Longdale referred to or not in her message remains to be seen. However, Patch 10.2.7 will also bring new quests and a new holiday event to bridge the gap between the Dragonflight and The War Within expansions.
Between the ongoing Plunderstorm event and the imminent arrival of Dragonflight Season 4, World of Warcraft players have plenty of content to sink their time into. Only time will tell how Blizzard's next experiments will turn out.

World of Warcraft recently implemented a restriction for new accounts in Classic Season of Discovery that stops them from trading with other characters, using the auction house, or sending and receiving in-game mail. These limitations, imposed on World of Warcraft accounts until they have had a paid subscription for at least 30 days, were added for similar reasons as last year’s restriction on WoW token purchases.
