What We Played #633 – Monster Hunter Now, Blood West & Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Happy Skull and Bones beta day for all that sail with her! I’m definitely going to be taking to the seas this weekend, and seeing if all those years of development have panned out. Hell, all I want is multiplayer Black Flag, and the trailers sure look like that’s what Ubisoft has made, so fingers crossed I’ll be pleasantly surprised. Other than that, I’ve been playing lots of another Ubisoft joint, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and I’ll be popping a score on that one after the weekend. It’s safe to say I’m thoroughly enjoying it though!

Nic B has just been playing Monster Hunter Now, telling us, “I’m slowly working my way through the new monsters released this month as life becomes super busy again…” Meanwhile, Nick P has mostly played Persona 5 Tactica this week, along with starting NG+ for Alan Wake 2, and a little Warhammer: Realms of Ruin.

Ade finished Spider-Man 2, saying, “100% and everything! Loved it!” He’s also been on review duties with Trinity Fusion, Ship of Fools and Cookie Cutter too!

Aran has finally finished Yakuza Like A Dragon. He tells us, “The last couple of chapters required some level and skill grinding to stand up to the final bosses. Got there in the end. Really enjoyed it but I think I’ll take a break from Like A Dragon for a bit.”

Gamoc has played Avatar Frontiers of Pandora only this week – including a spot of co-op with me. He pegs it as, “Far Cry with Avatar, but the Avatar stuff balances the Far Cry stuff very well. It’s surprisingly great.”

Steve has been playing the “great” Blood West, the “solid but frustrating” Racoo Venture and some more Left 4 Dead 2 online with friends. He also tells us, “In more retro news I installed the much-maligned Golden Axe: Beastrider after Sega’s announcement of a new entry in the series and it’s not good but neither is it the abomination that popular opinion suggests.”

And finally, Tef, has made a start on Baldur’s Gate 3 with its release on Xbox, playing in co-op with one person on TV with his Series X, and the other then using a Series S “headless” and streaming to an iPad while they share a couch. Why not just play split-screen? He doesn’t have a good answer for this, but does think that the Series S version is a pleasant surprise for how well it matches Series X. Expect to see something about that sometime soon.
