Warframe Dev Digital Extremes Lays Off Workers As It Transfers Wayfinder Ownership To Airship Syndicate

According to a new report by Polygon, Warframe developer Digital Extremes has laid off a number of workers associated with its external projects and publishing teams as it starts the process of divesting itself from Airship Syndicate, the developer of Wayfinder.
Wayfinder, which just launched into Early Access back in August, was developed by Airship Syndicate and published by Digital Extremes, and has struggled to gain a footing since its initial launch. It seems Digital Extremes is now moving away from supporting external projects according to the Polygon report, and has laid off members of the team that worked on supporting Wayfinder.
The Polygon report states that the Warframe developer laid off 20 people as Digital Extremes starts to transfer full ownership of Wayfinder to Airship Syndicate. While Digital Extremes has not confirmed the exact number of employees affected, it has confirmed that layoffs took place in a statement to Polygon and that it is stopping work on its «external projects division.» As a result, the move away from supporting Wayfinder signals Digital Extremes' intent to work on its own projects, such as its flagship title Warframe and its upcoming RPG, Soulframe.
Warframe's Prime Time #369 streamwas postponed today in light of the layoff news, and will happen next week, the official Twitter account posted.
Wayfinder dropped into early access back on August 17th but struggled out of the gate with performance issues and much more. Since then, the MMO has worked to improve the experience while also angling towards free-to-play in 2024.
