Visions of Mana reveals summer release date in surprise Xbox Direct appearance, shooting right up my JRPG wishlist

WWE 2K24, the next instalment in 2K's popular annual wrestling video game franchise, has officially been announced. The newest WWE 2K title will launch March 8, across PC (via Steam), PS5, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. Along with the release date, 2K also revealed the cover stars for the title. Cody Rhodes will feature on the front cover of the Standard Edition, while Women's Royal Rumble winners Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley will share the spotlight on the Deluxe Edition cover. WWE 2K24 also marks 40 years of WrestleMania and will be available in a special Forty Years of WrestleMania Edition, featuring iconic wrestlers from the event's history, including The Rock, The Undertaker, Hulk Hogan, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, and more, on the cover.

As part of Xbox’s Developer Direct, Square Enix Ltd. shared exciting details about Visions of Mana™, marking the first mainline entry in the Mana series in over 15 years. During the developer showcase, Mana Series Producer Masaru Oyamada and Mana Series Creator Koichi Ishii introduced players to the reimagined world of Mana. They provided insights into the game’s development process and showcased its action-packed gameplay. Scheduled for a Summer 2024 release, Visions of Mana will be available on PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PC via STEAM®.

Xbox kicked off 2024 in style with a Developer_Direct that provided looks at a number of upcoming games, and checking out what all was shown is one of the best ways to get a good sense of what fans can expect in the coming year. Similar to Nintendo Directs or PlayStation State of Plays, the Developer_Direct is an efficient way of conveying information and reveals in a video stream format. The name isn't just for style, however, as the Xbox Developer_Direct also gives studios a chance to talk about their titles outside the basic gameplay footage.

Microsoft’s second (hopefully annual?) Xbox Developer Direct went, like the first, exceptionally well. While we didn’t get a shadow-dropped killer exclusive – and let’s be honest, that’s not an expectation that Team Xbox probably wants to set – we did still get the surprise of a behind-the-scenes look at Square Enix’s upcoming Visions of Mana. Better yet, we got a good look at gameplay from Obsidian’s upcoming first-person RPG Avowed, we got the Hellblade 2 release date we’ve been waiting for, and best of all, we got the proper reveal of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the new first-person (!) action/adventure/puzzler/whip-simulator that’s being executive produced by Elder Scrolls and Fallout director Todd Howard. I’m extremely pleased with Microsoft’s showing, and it helps set the tone for what should be a very good year of Xbox exclusives.

The 45-minute presentation, streamed live on YouTube and Xbox's other social channels late Thursday, took the covers off MachineGames' upcoming Indiana Jones game, provided a release date for the highly anticipated Senua's Saga, and revealed a release window for Avowed, Obsidian's next big fantasy RPG.

Ninja Theory and Xbox Game Studios teamed up to reveal the at today’s Xbox Developer Direct. Following plenty of leaks and rumors earlier this week, the game is confirmed to be arriving on Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 21, 2024.

It's official: we've finally gotten our first look at the upcoming Indiana Jones game from Wolfenstein developer MachineGames: it's called Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and it's out later this year.
