New release WWE 2K24 was the best-selling physical game in the UK last week, knocking Final Fantasy VII Rebirth into second. The PS5 JRPG registered an 89 per cent drop in sales compared to its launch week while 2K's newest wrestling entry has debuted better than last year's instalment, with purchases up 26 per cent.
Vanillware's Unicorn Overlord also claimed a top 10 spot during its first week of sales; 34 per cent of sales were for the PS5 version as the Nintendo Switch edition sold best. Elsewhere, Helldivers 2 slipped to eighth, Hogwarts Legacy took third once again, and EA Sports FC 24 ended up in fifth.
Here's the latest top 10 in full.
Liam grew up with a PlayStation controller in his hands and a love for Metal Gear Solid. Nowadays, he can be found playing the latest and greatest PS5 games as well as supporting Derby County. That last detail is his downfall.
I feel like Unicorn Overlord was never going to sell particularly well — it's the sort of game that if it gets to 1 million digital and physical it'll be a great success. I've seen quite a lot of online chatter about it, so hopefully it does well!
This is a better result for Unicorn Overlord than I was expecting honestly considering how niche it is. Also unfortunate to see that crazy Helldivers streak end where it kept increasing in sales week over week which is almost unheard of.
My Monarch Edition for Unicorn Overlord just came this morning. The box art is typically gorgeous, as with every Vanillaware game.
I'm delighted to see it pop in to the Top 10.
I'm not sure when I'll have the time to play it between Helldivers and FF VII though.
Unicorn overlord looks great, might try it out at some point
@BranJ0 Then they should have released it on steam. They only have themselves to blame if they snub the PC market, which is a large market that loves jrpg's.
Unicorn Overlord ended up being my soul purchase in this ridiculous month, I’m thoroughly enjoying it.
Bit of a silly, pulpy story but the gameplay is incredibly addictive and recruiting charming heroes to crush the evil army is really satisfying.
@rachetmarvel Not really as big as you would think. Good for the big AAA (Persona mostly as LAD fell fast within 10 days) ones but not so much for niche ones. The Switch and Playstation are still the big ones for that.
I did not realize that professional wrestling is so popular in the UK. I assumed it was like the NFL in that the fan base is American. Kind of lowers my estimation of the country.
@Stevemalkpus Really? This is the country that invented the soap opera… and that's all WWE is; high drama plus muscles, costumes, a bit of flesh on show, and the occasional bit of simulated violence. What's not to like?
I don't watch it personally, but I
