One of the bigger stories to come out of 2023’s Toronto International Film Festival was Bertrand Bonello’s science fiction movie The Beast, a dizzying, surreal story about a woman, Gabrielle (Léa Seydoux), reliving three past lives as part of a process to purge her memories and emotions. In each of these lives, she encounters Louis (George MacKay of 1917 and Marrowbone) in a series of emotional relationships that lead in dangerous directions. Critics’ responses were split between strong positives and dubious negatives, but they seemed to agree that it’s a remarkably image-driven, idea-packed film that’s sensual and challenging. The comparison to the Wachowskis’ Cloud Atlas seemed obvious, too, given the separate but linked stories of people echoing across time together.
Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones Gets Open Beta Ahead of Release Date

Skull and Bones will have an open beta, Ubisoft has announced. It kicks off across all platforms (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and Windows PC via the Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Store) on February 8 and runs until February 11.
In the open beta, players can reach the Infamy Cap of Tier 6 and earn up to five exclusive rewards including unique ship cosmetics, an emote, a weapon, and a Pandal Lemur pet. Progression carries over from the beta to the full game, which comes out February 16. Ubisoft+ subscribers get the game three days early on February 13.
Announcing a year’s worth of post-launch content, Ubisoft said its open-world seafaring game will benefit from the addition of pirate lords and new world events. Check out IGN’s Skull and Bones endgame preview for more.

Skull and Bones finally comes out next month after years of development hell that’s seen a number of delays. What began in 2013 as an expansion for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag evolved into an MMO spinoff which ultimately became the standalone game Skull and Bones.
It was revealed at E3 2017 with an autumn 2018 release window, though it would miss that window — and many others — due to six delays, ultimately landing on February 16, 2024. In addition to changes in direction, Ubisoft attributes the delays to making too many games at once. The project has churned through three creative directors, most recently losing Elisabeth Pellen in September.

Skull and Bones’ open beta shows a great pirate ship game sunk by scope
I haven’t followed the development of Skull and Bones too closely over the years; I’d see the pirate game emerge at a show with a new trailer or demo, and then sink back beneath the waves with delay after delay. So when Ubisoft opened the game to the public with an open beta recently, I was intrigued to see how the close-to-final product looked. I’ve been known to enjoy a spot of piracy, and Ubisoft has the incredible Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag in its back catalogue, after all.

Action-RPG Sword of the Necromancer has a sequel on the way that takes it from top-down 2D to a fully 3D perspective. Ahead of that, the devs at Grimorio of Games plan to sample the new style with a 3D remake of the original sometime in 2024.
Skull And Bones is now in open beta, almost as if Ubisoft intend to finally release it
Continuing their great prank of pretending they plan to release Skull And Bones, Ubisoft today launched an open beta for their multiplayer open-world pirate boat game. The free beta will run until Sunday night, after which Ubisoft will presumably delay the game for another seventeen years while once again redesigning the whole thing. When you buy your great grandniece Skull And Bones for her 17th birthday, you'll be able to tell her you were there for the mythical open beta of '24.

While the character customization at the beginning of Skull and Bones is well designed thanks to the water’s reflection and shipwreck environment, it fails to let you see your entire character. You should save your time because there’s a much better character customization waiting for you after the tutorial.
