Looks like Ubisoft is the latest company to lay off a number of employees. The studio confirmed the decision to lay off employees, but added that none are on production teams.
Ubisoft confirmed the decision, with a statement emphasizing the decision was one to “enhance our collective efficiency” for long-term success.
“Today we announced that we are reorganising our Canadian studios' general and administrative functions and reducing headcount in Hybride (our VFX studio based in Montreal) and in our global IT team, which impacts 124 positions overall.
These are not decisions taken lightly and we are providing comprehensive support for our colleagues who will be leaving Ubisoft during this transition,” they said, adding that none of the positions are on production teams.
Hybride is an effects studio that has also done work in other media productions, including on The Mandalorian TV series.
This is just the latest round of layoffs in a very difficult year for gaming-related companies. Embracer Group confirmed just this week that Cryptic Studios has had layoffs as part of the company’s overall restructuring process that has already seen many cuts and even studio closures. Last week, Bungie made a painful cut, laying off an estimated 8% of its employees after disappointing revenue numbers.
