Ubisoft announces Tom Clancy’s The Division 3

XDefiant is the upcoming free-to-play shooter from Ubisoft, which aims to recapture the classic arcade shooter-style game seen in shooters of yesteryear. However, since its announcement, it has had quite a turbulent development, and now it has been indefinitely delayed, raising the question of when players will see the game make its return and when we could expect to see a release date again.

Ubisoft has excelled itself with the PR for Assassin's Creed Mirage, coming up with one of the daftest PR stunts I've ever seen and, yes, I'm writing about it so it worked. Forget people in vans with parcels. What the gamers need, you see, is a bird of prey delivering the latest hotness straight to their door.

Not long ago it was quietly announced that The Division 3 was in the works at Ubisoft. I don’t think many fans of the series were surprised, seeing as how The Division 2 has been rehashing old seasons as the wind down supporting it as a live service. The Division 3 will certainly be a welcome inclusion, but with two other The Division titles also on the horizon, the third iteration of the series will need to make some hefty changes, especially if it intends to compete with many of the other looter shooters that have risen in popularity.

Naughty Dog will celebrate The Last of Us Day tomorrow, but you shouldn't go into its livestream expecting any news on new games or TV shows. The PlayStation Studios developer has taken to Twitter to kill any excitement by confirming it'll be focusing on «art, merch, and more». The studio continues: «While we're honoring the series' 10-year legacy, we will not be discussing any future game or TV show projects.»

Ubisoft has outed the existence of The Division 3 — the next game in its looter shooter series. The title is currently in early development, and that's pretty much all we've got to go on. Just to give you an idea of what 'early' means, the team at Massive Entertainment — the lead developer on both of the previous Division games — is now recruiting for the project. So yeah, it's early.

Tom Clancy’s The Division 3 is officially on the cards. Julian Gerighty, who worked on the previous games before becoming creative director on Star Wars Outlaws, will become executive producer for The Division brand once the sci-fi title is out.

Ubisoft has made another shakeup for one of its core franchises, as Julian Gerighty is now the executive producer for its Division franchise. After shipping Star Wars Outlaws (as its creative director), he's to oversee the "plethora of projects" for the Tom Clancy branded sub-franchise. 

Ubisoft sure does love a sequel, and it's now confirmed — in just about as understated a fashion as is possible — that it's got another one in the works, this time in the form of The Division 3.
