Today, Hangar 13 shared a lot of new details on the main modes fans will find in Top Spin 2K25. Everything starts in the Top Spin Academy, where they'll be able to master core gameplay mechanics guided by the voice of John McEnroe. The tennis icon will lead players through Basic Lessons on fundamentals such as positioning, timing and shot selection, followed by Advanced Lessons focused on power serves, lob shots and more, and ending with Playstyle Lessons that show off the strengths and weaknesses of various playstyles players can chose to apply when building their custom MyPLAYER.
Offline Exhibition matches include single player singles or single player doubles with an AI partner, as well as local multiplayer singles or doubles with human partners, supporting up to four players. Online Exhibition multiplayer with skill-based random matchmaking will also be available at launch, supporting cross-platform play, but multiplayer between friends is planned for the near future and therefore won't be available at the release.

For those interested in venturing deeper into Top Spin 2K25, the developers have prepared three options: 2K Tour, MyCAREER, and World Tour. In the 2K Tour, players select one of the licensed tennis professionals and go online to challenge another player and their selected pro. Each day, certain featured pros and objectives offer the opportunity to earn points and climb the 2K Tour leaderboard.
MyCAREER, on the other hand, allows fans the opportunity to create their own custom MyPLAYER and rise through the Men’s or Women’s Tour rankings by competing in a series of small to large tournaments, including all four Grand Slam tournaments, while chasing the World #1 ranking.
The MyPLAYER creation includes a wide variety of unique hairstyles, skin tones, body types, prosthetics, apparel, animations and play style options. Players must also manage their own athlete in this mode, deciding which events to play and skip to keep up energy levels and stave off fatigue.
Once you've built your own MyPLAYER, you can take them online to challenge other MyPLAYERs. By winning matches and tournaments, players earn Tournament Points, climb the global leaderboard, and claim glory.
Regardless of the game mode picked in Top Spin 2K25, by playing and winning matches and tournaments, players will earn XP and VC. XP can be used to improve MyPLAYER attributes and unlock coaches and fittings to define play style, while VC can also be used to redistribute MyPLAYER attribute points, hire coaches, purchase fittings, animations, and apparel.

2024 has been a cracking year for tennis fans so far. Reebok brought back its classic Court Victory Pump sneakers, Zendaya got stuck into a saucy bit of mixed doubles on the big screen in Challengers, and now one of the greatest tennis videogame series’ has returned after a 13-year-long hiatus. TopSpin 2K25 delivers an on-court experience that’s every bit as smooth and snappy as it was two console generations ago, and it features licensed superstars and stadiums that now more closely resemble the real thing. It’s a shame, then, that some convoluted career progression systems and the inclusion of virtual currency hold TopSpin 2K25 back from being an outright winner.
It’s been 13 years since PlayStation fans last got their hands on a digital racquet in the TopSpin series. In that time, we’ve jumped two console generations, and the industry has seen a massive shift towards the live service model. Put together, what does that mean for the series’ return in TopSpin 2K25? Good things, apparently, as Hangar 13 has cooked up a fun, flashy, and addictive tennis title that you’ll enjoy coming to grips with and love mastering.
Although its relationship with video games goes all the way back to Pong, tennis has seemingly always been a tricky sport to properly nail in digital form.
The first video game console I ever owned was an original Xbox that came bundled with two games: NCAA Football 2005 and Top Spin. My appreciation for both Madden and tennis games can be traced back to those being two of my first-ever console gaming experiences.
After a thirteen year hiatus, the TopSpin series is back with TopSpin 2K25, and with the weighty moment-to-moment gameplay still at its core, it’s a tennis game revival that doesn’t disappoint.
Fallout 76, the online survival game set in the Fallout universe, got a massive player base boost thanks to the combination of the Prime Gaming giveaway, heavy discounts, and the popularity of the Amazon Prime Video TV series (just renewed for a second season).
It has been a while since we last saw an updated TopSpin game. The last time 2K released a tennis game in their signature style was in 2011 when we all enjoyed Top Spin 4. In the meantime, WWE, NBA, and even LEGO have had their moment in the limelight, while tennis went unappreciated. If you have been sitting around waiting for a 2K tennis game, your time is now. 2K is almost ready to release TopSpin 2K25, and here is everything you need to know about it.
