Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered contains a warning about the inclusion of racist and ethnic stereotypes.
As reported by IGN, Crystal Dynamics flags the content in question at the start of the game.
“The games in this collection contain offensive depictions of people and cultures rooted in racial and ethnic prejudices,” its warning reads. “These stereotypes are deeply harmful, inexcusable, and do not align with our values at Crystal Dynamics.
“Rather than removing this content, we have chosen to present it here in its original form, unaltered, in the hopes that we may acknowledge its harmful impact and learn from it.”
While Crystal Dynamics didn’t specify which content it’s referring to, it’s speculated that it could be the animalistic depiction of Pacific Island natives in Tomb Raider 3, who are implied to be cannibals.
Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered will be released for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on February 14. It includes remasters of Lara Croft’s first three globe-trotting adventures, including all of the expansions and secret levels for each game.
