This Week’s Japanese Game Releases: Fate/Samurai Remnant, Ys X: Nordics, more

What's with Japanese publishers and early 2024?! At this point it's becoming a bit of a joke, because we've got yet another Japanese game coming to PS5 and PS4 in the first quarter of next year. Launching on the same day as Persona 3 Reload — that's the 2nd February — is Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash. The date's been outed by the brawler's newly published PlayStation Store page (as spotted by Gematsu).

There's an awful lot to like about Fate/Samurai Remnant — an action RPG set in 1600s Japan. With the country on the brink of unprecedented societal change, protagonist Miyamoto Iori finds himself at a loss. A diligent student of soon-to-be-outdated swordplay, Iori gets by on local busy work, but can't shake the feeling that his life is stuck in a rut.

DICE's once-ramshackle, apparently much-improved near-future shooter Battlefield 2042 is free to play this weekend, granting access to the game's Season 6 "Dark Creations" content offerings, amongst other things. BUT WAIT. There's an asterisk over the word "free" on the promo art! Everybody drop to cover! See, these are the tiny details you have to watch out for in Battlefield. That asterisk could be the equivalent of the glint on a sniper rifle, aimed squarely at your wallet, purse and/or khaki-coloured bumbag. Let's zoom in on the footnote...

Several things have separated Nintendo from the rest of the gaming powerhouses over the years. And one of the biggest ones is how they’ve used their experience, longevity, and clout to branch out into things beyond games in ways the other publishers can’t. Yes, everyone has had TV or movie adaptations of their properties, but if you look beyond that, Nintendo is doing quite a lot. One such “expansion” they’ve been doing is opening up new stories from which fans can buy merch. One such store, Nintendo Kyoto, is opening up next week!

Forza Motorsport for Xbox Series and PC, River City: Rival Showdown for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC, and Rear Sekai for Switch are the highlights of this week’s Japanese video game releases.

Amid all the big releases in September, it’s easy to forget that Omega Force’s Fate/Samurai Remnant also released last week. Based on TYPE-MOON’s Fate franchise and developed in collaboration with Aniplex, the action RPG has shipped over 300,000 units worldwide in its first week.

Total worldwide shipments and digital sales for Fate/Samurai Remnant surpassed 300,000 units one week after launch, publisher Koei Tecmo and developers Omega Force and Kou Shibusawa announced.

The beans have new friends in Buzz and Woody, as these two characters arrive in a Fall Guys–Toy Story crossover this week. The official Twitter page announced the news on Monday. Epic Games has provided no specific timing. This comes shortly after the announcement of a price hike of the in-game currency Show-Bucks last week.

Sword Art Online: Last Recollection for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and Detective Pikachu Returns for Switch are the highlights of this week’s Japanese video game releases.

Intel is set to begin high-volume manufacturing of its Intel 4 node with bleeding edge extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) in Ireland from Friday the 29th of September. It will host a ceremony at its Fab 34 facility near Leixlip, Ireland at 12:45pm Irish Standard Time. Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger will be in attendance.
