All throughout 2023, we saw plenty of people asking whether the year would go down as one of the best ever periods for new game releases. Indeed, it was an objectively stacked 12 months — and we're not even thinking about non-PlayStation platforms when we write that.

Released on Meta Quest VR in April 2023 to widespread acclaim, Breachers is a Rainbow Six Siege-style 5v5 tactical shooter that's now available on PSVR2. You and four teammates assume the role of either 'Enforcers' or 'Revolters'; the former team is tasked with infiltrating the location and disarming bombs, while the latter must strive to prevent this happening.

Happy new year, everyone! The next 12 months will no doubt be stuffed with brilliant new games (just the first quarter is looking nuts), but if you missed some older titles, PS Plus Essential's monthly selection of games will keep you busy. Sony is kicking off 2024 with a strong lineup for January, and the trio is available right now.

The UK's final weekly chart of 2023 for physical games is here, and it's Hogwarts Legacy that takes the top spot as the year comes to a close. However, WB Games' open world Harry Potter title has achieved more than that — as reported by GamesIndustry, it's the UK's best-selling boxed game of 2023 overall. Usually, that title goes to EA Sports and its annual football game, but Hogwarts Legacy won out over EA Sports FC 24, ending a 10-year streak.

Just over a month away from its PS5 and PS4 release, Granblue Fantasy: Relink is getting new gameplay footage on the regular, and this latest chunk of combat from Famitsu is a treat. The 20-minute video focuses on several multiplayer boss fights (which are also playable solo with CPU allies). As we keep saying, the action RPG looks super promising, especially as full teams of four can coordinate their attacks to rack up huge combos and deal crazy damage.

Looking for a crash course on how to play Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash on PS5 and PS4? Well, here’s Satoru Gojo to help. In truth, while this trailer is delivered as a kind of crash course on the game, there’s really not a whole lot to learn. Essentially, it’s a tag-team arena brawler where you need to attack to build your Cursed Energy Gauge, which subsequently allows you to deploy special moves – including some deadly joint attacks.

Amazingly, Atomic Heart was released in February of this year, heralding the onslaught of games that was to come. If you've been itching for a reason to return to developer Mundfish's bizarre world, you might want to look at this trailer for Trapped in Limbo, DLC, due out 6th February on PS5 and PS4.

Successful Souls-like Lords of the Fallen will be patched today with the first of two seasonal updates that bring quests, weapons and armour pieces, and spells to the PS5 game. Offerings of Orius arrives today while Trial of the Three Spirits drops on 21st December 2023, each adding more features and festive decorations and minigames.

Honkai: Star Rail only launched on PS5 a few months ago, but the game’s approaching its first anniversary on all platforms. And next year, the Trailblazer will arrive on an entirely new planet, Penacony, as the main plot picks up pace again. For those of you who don’t play this turnbased RPG, it’s a single player live service that’s constantly adding new story content with each update.

Announced and released in the space of a week, the free God of War Ragnarok DLC Valhalla is out now on PS5, PS4. It'll be delivered via an update to the base game; you don't need to search the PS Store for it. Set aside roughly 8GB for the base game patch, and then you'll download the rogue-like mode on top.

God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla is an unfortunate amalgamation of Norse words. However, the incoming free DLC (out today, 12th December) looks like a delicious second helping for fans of Sony Santa Monica's most recent release. We learned that Valhalla would serve as an epilogue to Kratos's story, and now we have a trailer showing it in randomly generated action.

With The Game Awards 2023 now squarely in the rear view mirror, it's time to reflect on what was shown during Geoff Keighley's big end of year bash. Criticisms of the format and actual award presentations aside, the event did give us some significant game reveals.
