The Last of Us 2: Remastered seemingly confirmed by Naughty Dog dev

Divergent fans may still be salty that the franchise was never fully wrapped on on the big screen, but author Veronica Roth is more than okay with it. In fact, in her opinion, the adapted series "feels complete". 

Not a bad discount for one of the most applauded gaming adaptations of the year.

The Last Of Us, as a series, rapidly rose to superstardom after its initial release back in 2023 on the now-humble PS3. Taking well-established gameplay mechanics, a uniquely bleak game world, and then bundling that together with a phenomenal story had everyone head over heels for Naughty Dog. 

We have a new rumor about the state of The Last Of Us multiplayer from a new source. The game is reportedly cancelled, but the devil is in the details.

The number comes from the LinkedIn profile for former associate game designer at Naughty Dog Ian Blake, whose work seems to include an unannounced multiplayer project with support for up to 40 clients.

The Last of Us Part II might be getting a remaster, as accidentally stated by a developer at Naughty Dog. First spotted by Resetera users, Lead Outsource Artist Mark Pajarillo referenced the version in a now-updated LinkedIn experience post. “Responsible for overseeing the production of all outsourced environment art assets, weapons and interactive props for two iconic titles The Last of Us: Part One and The Last of Us 2: Remastered,” the original post read, proving its existence. Hints of an enhanced PS5 version first dropped in July, when composer Gustavo Santaolalla alluded to some new features being added to the remaster.

A reference to a «remastered» version The Last of Us Part 2 has been spotted on the profile of a Naughty Dog developer, lending further credence to suggestions an enhanced version of the 2020 PlayStation 4 game is on the way.

Rumours of a remaster of The Last of Us Part 2 are refusing to go away. Rumours first emerged in January of last year that a director’s cut of the acclaimed PS4 title was in the works, while as recently as this July, The Last of Us composer Gustavo Santaolalla let slip that a “new version” of the game was in development.

Naughty Dog has had some rough news this past few days. We had the alert of layoffs along with the recent industry insider claiming that the multiplayer-focused game set within The Last of Us universe has been killed off. However, a new discovery on LinkedIn reveals that Naughty Dog is working on a remastered edition of The Last of Us Part II. This might be an indicator that we’re going to see a PC release soon. However, an official announcement to the public has yet to come out.
